View Full Version : Pentium II 333 confusion
I have a Pentium II 333 (retail box version) installed on a Supermicro P6SBA motherboard. I've recently tried overclocking it. I changed the jumpers to run the board at 100mHz and the multipliers go from 3 to 6. I set the jumpers for the multiplier at 4.5, figuring I would try it at 450mHz. The computer boots up and reports a 500mHz processor installed and then freezes. Now I try a bunch of different multipliers, but the result is always the same---500mHz reported and a frozen PC. Any suggestions?
The multiplier jumpers will have no effect on Intel processors since they are internally locked. Increasing the FSB is the typical method of overclocking these chips. You have a 5 multiplier in that chip, and times 100FSB it gives the 500 you are seeing. You may have a ram problem or a cooling problem that keeps it from running at 500. Most likely though it is the chip itself that is incapable of running at that speed. If you have any FSb settings less than 100 you might try them and see if it will play. There may be other issues with those settings though. (PCI/AGP)
