View Full Version : Variable mp3s in Foobar?

In the 'info' section of Foobar for a variable mp3, it shows the bitrate @ 161, even though I know it goes higher and lower than this number.

Does Foobar just round off and slap the 161 onto the whole song? Or, does it just avg. the number but actually play whatever bitrate it's supposed to be.

i would suspect its just an average for the entire song. unlike other players it doesn't update as it plays. its playing the way its supposed to :)

Alright, sounds good. I figured that the almighty god of mp3 players wouldn't do something so drastic as to take the quality down a notch (or many!).

winamp has settings to display "average bitrate" instead of played.

"Foobar" is the best mp3 player???
I hadn't heard.

Winamp displays the current bit rate at that time, but right next to displays the average.

Foobar is the ultimate you say?

I'm sticking with Winamp.

Well it is IMHO one of the better if not best ones.

Once you tweak some of the many, many options they give you, you can get it sounding great.

foobar is by far the best sounding. It doesnt have the best interface, but the sound is equal to none right now.

By the way, Foobar2000 >> preferances >> Input >> Standard inputs

at the bottom of the menu, you can set it to display the real-time bitrate for VBR files, if you want to:)

Ack! Interface is terrible! Can something get any worse?!

The audio quality is a tiny tiny tiny bit clearer then Winamp3. But the interface just comepletely ruins it.
