View Full Version : Upgrading but unsure which card is right
Ok. Ive currently got a Geforce 4 ti4200 64mb, and im looking to upgrade for around £100-£120 (Sorry about using £) Most of my friends are telling me how amazing ATI's are but ive always used GeForce's and dont know which to use anymore. The 2 cards i looked at are the fx 5600 ultra 256mb, and the ati 9600 pro 128 mb. Which (if either) would be a decent upgrade on my old gfx card. One thing i heard was that 256mb cards generally have inferior memory to the 128mb models , is this the case?
Thanks in advance for any advice

both cards suck, spend a little more and get a 5900 or a 9700 or higher

neither of those are an upgrade over what you have except for having dx9. save your pounds and wait!!!!!!!!!!!
I used to be into NVIDIA but I got wise and got ATI. If you can get a Radeon 9700 Pro that would be good ( I had one before my 9800 but it was sacrificed to the overclocking gods). I have a TI4600 in my secondary rig and the 9700 was better. You may want to look at the 9600XT but I do not have any personal experience with it - however you may want to consider this because of cost (plus it comes with a coupon for HL2)
Dont listen to the NVIDIA fan boys they are just clinging on to the past (the emperor has no clothes kind of thing)

Cobray you are an idiot saying don't listen to the Nvidia boys. Do you have any proof? You are the one clinging to the past. Nvidia cards are much better than last year. ATI does not have the dominance it once had.
Ok you can get a ATi 9500Pro(i think) 97.53 Pounds
Or you can look at the Nvidia side of things:
Gainward (4936) 128Mb FX PowerPack! Ultra/760 TV-DVI (FX5600) 101.64 Pounds....

shortyes, read the forum rules and apoligize.
My advice pertaining to the thread would be to wait for enough cash to get a 9700 or 9800, or 5900 card. The reason is the 9600's have 4 pipelines and just arn't a big improvement over your current card.
hmm. ok thanks for the advice guys, ill probably save up another £100 or so and buy an ati 9700+

yup, that woud be your best bet. and as for shortyes, wow, a little on the defensive are we? nv cards are better than they were, but they are still not as good as the ati cards....
so i would have to agree, dont listen to the fanboys ranting and raving that nv cards are the greatest thing since sliced bread. and you really do need to watch what you say, there is no flaming, period.
