Some of you might know this, but I have seen a lot of questions the last couple of weeks about how to tell the difference between a cB0 and a cC0 processor. Everone is searching for the P3 700 cC0. Listed below are the S-specs for the P3 700:

P3 700 S.E.C.C.2 (slot 1) cC0 = SL4C3 Boxed [n/a]
P3 700 FC-PGA (flip chip) cC0 = SL4CH Boxed [SL4M7]
P3 700 S.E.C.C.2 (slot1) cB0 = SL453 Boxed [SL454]
P3 700 FC-PGA (flip chip) cB0 = SL3XX Boxed [SL45Y]

Ok, now, I don't know why there isn't a boxed version of the cC0 slot 1. Doesn't make any sense to me, but I'm kind of new at this.

Here is a complete list of intel P3 chips and all their respective codes:

Hope this helps some of you out there. At least when you go out and buy a processor you can ask the people and make sure you aren't getting ripped off.

*bump*

Just picked up a P3 850 and an ASUS CUSL2-C.
Let you know on Monday just how fast I got it to go...
I'm a little concerned about the fact that it's a cB0 processor, but we'll see what happens...
Have a great weekend!!!

SiSoft Sandra 2001 shows the S-spec info. Says my P3 700 FC-PGA is cB0. My question is, what does this have to do with anything? Are cC0 supposed to be better overclockers?

According to the P3 S-spec information linked above, and apparently confirmed elsewhere by Intel, the cC0 stepping will not work with the BX chipset, owing to the lack of a 'split plane for the Vcc'. Only cB0 steppings are approved for use at 1.7V on the BX chipset.

Does anyone have an opinion on this, as many overclockers seem to use CPUs with the cC0 stepping on BX chipsets?

The "split plane" issue was a big scare when they were first introduced, but I have not heard of a single problem running the cc0 on BX boards. I have 2 on a VP6 and it doesn't do anything special for "split plane".

Any other significant advantages or disadvantages? I have the full edition of Sandra 2001 Pro and I'll go look it up if someone can give me a reason. Cozyfansatooty

Download SiSoft 2001 standard, and check the CPU info
module. This is a must have utility anyways...

BTW. I got no problems with my cB0 chip. Runs as fast
as my MB will let it at stock voltage of 1.65.

Re: "Split Plane" big scare... Thanks, Tim-

PS: I notice that Intel don't even apply footnote 9 consistently, within the P3 S-spec sheet.

Sigh, I just placed a p3 1ghz cco slot 1 in my soyo 6ba+100 (BX) and even though it boots and runs windows fine, if I run any 3d app it locks almost immediately. If I put back in an 850 cbo everything is fine. This is really a pisser. I wish I would have read this thread before. I had read about the split plane before but who knew. Also, maybe I just have the worlds worst p3 1ghz, hehe.
