View Full Version : How do you overclock a PII 333?
whatnot

I'm trying to overclock a PII 333 on a DFI motherboard. There are no jumpers on the board so I guess its all in the cmos. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I can overclock the old socket 7 style but never tried with the newer technology.
Thanks.

that is 66*5... my old 333 did 420(4x105)
you may be ablt to lower the multiplier on that cpu depending on what week it is.... you will not be able to rais the multiplier though
No jumpers? then just check your BIOS for options to change FSB and multilper options.. you will need to state the model number of your board to get more help on how to change the settings.... and to find out if you can use 100 FSB or not.
Also how fast is the ram that you are using?
whatnot

Mother board : DFI
Model : P2XBL
200 MB of PC100 RAM
Does that help?

ok here is your motherboards support site.
get the manual their and that will tell you how to change the settings you need... you even got a hardware monitor on that motherboard so that works out well... just have to download the software for it......
sorry doesn't look like you have any options in the bios, but you have dip switches, they sure beat jumpers.
But about the FSB thing.... good that your ram is PC-100....

here is a manual that will tell you what you can set things to.
JP3 is the first thing you should try and change.........
try it at 100...as it is currently at 66......
now you should also change the dip switches.... try setting them to 3x...
this will give you a 300... why 300 if you have a 333 ????
to check if you can lower the multiplier.... as the later 333's that came out were locked at 5x.. the older one's could be lowered. Now if you can boot at 300, the next part is simple. try 3.5x, then 4x, etc.
OK WHAT IF 300 DOESN'T WORK?... well this board of your will not let you change the voltage.... so..... your luck may not be that good if the CPU will not do 500 as that is your only other choice, try it at 5x, if it works, lucky, if not sorry, not much else you can do.
Now lets say you can lower the multiplier, and lets say get to 450, you then have to make sure you are stable, just because you POST does not mean stable.... a simple and quick way to test if you are stable is to loop a Q3 or UT... or any other FPS benchmark... 3Dmark2000 will also do. If that runs fine for hours, you should be stable.
also keep in mind heat. your got an onboard probe so use it... don't run your CPU at lets say 500 if your temps go up to 50C-60C if when they are at 30C when you run your computer at 333. That is not good and you will need better cooling.
So tier you go... that is the basic idea of how to overclock your computer
