Okay, here's the story. I was installing a new HDD, and because of a rather unusual case layout, that required me to use the molex Y-splitter to my R9700np. Without realizing it, as I plugged the splitter into a molex from my PSU, the 12v line wiggled out of the splitter. This caused two problems: first, my video card was receiving 5v but not 12v. Second, there was a live 12v wire dangling about in my case. Either or both of those things could've messed up my video card.
When I turned on my system (before I realized the problem), I got weird sort of pastel static on my monitor in what looked like 320x480, lots of pinks and greens and whites and grays in what looked like the texture gradients at the end of the ASCII character set, if that makes any sense. Obviously, I realized something was wrong, but I thought all I'd changed was the hard drive, so I unplugged that, booted, same deal. Then I found the problem. Got rid of the damaged Y-splitter and tried booting. No video. Switched to my old TI200. Booted up fine. So if anything's permanently damaged, it appears to be my 9700.
Fortunately, I have an old PCI video card lying around that I plugged in, so I've made it into windows with my 9700 in place. I'm getting problem !'s next to the icons in device manager. It's telling me that "This device cannot start." It's recommending that I uninstall and reinstall drivers, which I am about to do. It's further recommending that I remove and reseat the card, which I am also about to do. I'm also going to try reflashing the card BIOS (it's been flashed with a 9700 Pro BIOS, contrary to the claims of my sig), out of stupid hope. If that doesn't work, what else can I do? Are there any diagnostic programs out there or anything that may help me? I'd *really* like to avoid the expense of buying a new card right now. Thanks in advance for all your help.
