I can successfully overclock my P3 700E to 931 but for some strange reason it actually seems to slow my PC down. My HD performance gets cut in half and Game performance drops about 20% instead of increasing with the faster CPU speed. The only thing I can think of is a lack of power from the PSU. It's only a 250w. Would the lower performance be a direct result of not having enough power to feed the system?

System Specs:
Abit BX-133 RAID
P3 700E with Golden Orb (931MHz o/c temps are 31ºC when idle 35ºC after about 10-15 minutes of heavy load)
256MB PC133 SDRAM
Voodoo 5 5500 AGP
SBLive Value
NetGear FA310TX NIC
Linksys NIC
40GB WD ATA100 HD
15GB Maxtor UDMA66 HD
both Drives are on the built in Highpoint ATA/100-RAID Controller
Pacific Digital 4x4x24 CDRW

it's not a heat issue. Any ideas?

Strange. At first I thought it was because your memory was reverting to CAS3 or lower ns without you knowing, but I see you're only running it at standard spec of 133MHz.

I don't know, it might be a PCI bus speed problem and one of your components, like the WD HD.

Other than that, PSU, but I highly doubt it.

Oddly enough, I set the RAM CAS back to 3 and the speed issue was resolved. Problem there is, my PSU doesn't have the juice to feed a CPU pulling 30+Watts and the V5 5500 which I believe pulls between 50 and 80 Watts. But the strange slow down is history. Thanks for trying.

ever thought of adding a second PSU?
It is very easy to do and will get rid of any thoughts of you not having enough power to run your system to its full overclocked potentail.

Knowing you have 500 Watts to play with is always a nice feeling
