Agreed! Althugh I´m currently sticking to Intel I agree that there probably is nothing wrong with AMD cpu´s. The thing that I´m uncomfotable with is the motherboards used for AMD. The friends of mine that have AMD have all had to tweak the mobo´s to insanity to make them run stable at all times. This is probably due to that windows was made with Intel chips i mind mut if anyone get a troublefree (if there is such a thing with windows) environment working. Please let us know. I know I would switch.
And of course Intel is overpriced due to the name Intel. We will soon se how low they can go. Keep pushing AMD! A little competition is good for us customers!

Well...........
I got my Celeron II for $89. It runs stable @ 945.
So I'm not that far off the price/performance level the Duron gets.
Yeah, intel screwed up on the P4. There's no argument there. And the Duron is cheap and fast.
Lets run 'em for 10 years, and see which one lives longer. only time will tell......
Ready, synchronize watches. GO !!

i do not honestly think the duron is in the same class as the p3. the t-bird hands down smokes the p3 clock-for-clock? i dont think so either.
amd's word of mouth advertising is better than intels billion dollar ad campain! they have all of you brainwashed! i remember when with the k6 amd said it was going to be faster than intel. their fpu turned out to be non-existent! amd may have come along way. maybe now they are ford to intels chevy. although, i dont think they are ferrari to intels chevy, as they claim!
yes indeed, amd rules at benchmarks, but in any real world application(games) intel still wins.
plus if you do more than just play games, 3dnow will not help you, whereas simd will.
please correct me if im wrong here!

In GAMES Intel wins? Where the freak have you been in the past year dude? The Thunderbird and Duron Processors have EXTREMELY FAST processor FPU's, which games need more than anything. I've never personally owned an AMD processor, but I use a Duron 700 at my HS for video composing. As far as the performance of the Duron, it kicks butt! Although Intel is highly overpriced, I don't see them falling off of their log yet, I mean our country is full of brainwashed people. These 'brainwashed' people think Intel is the only thing around, since they have the STUPID a** blue men waisting valuable network television time. The Thunderbird clearly smokes the pants off of the P3, it even gives the P4 one hell of a run for its money.
the problem with the original k6 was it's fpu, and in games, that showed. I had a k6-166 and a Pentium 166 which I used for testing once. AMD claimed to be able to do something using less cpu loops - I can't remember which. But basically I found windoze to perform A LOT better than the intel did, but lacked in the gaming department. But that was then.
This is now.

bump!
I have nothing but fun and enjoyment out of my dual pIII 550 but my single AMD 1.2 GHz totaly rocks. it out benches my friends p4 1.5 in side by side comparisen in alomost everthing . I think as soon as amd releases there 760MP chipset intel will suffer a major loss in stocks and be forced to drop proces to compete

I cant say anything about comparing the P4 to the t-bird,
but I'd put my 800IIIeb up against a Duron anyday.
(As soon as I get a real video card...)
I got the Abit VT6X4 mb. with VIA Apollo Pro 133/133A chipset.
SiSoft 2001 CPU benchmarks land right where they should,
depending upon was I got my fsb at. (150 all the time now...)
My WD 15g drive running off the onboard UDMA66 scores
about 15000 average on the drive benchmark.
I ran the memory benchmark 16 times the other day.
All 16 smoked both the Duron AND the 1gig PIII in spite
of what I have read about the VIA chipsets alleged memory
bandwidth problems. Most of the scores were chasing the
Athlon. Here is the highest 1, which actually beat it.

I think the AMD vs. Intel debate has been played out to its max. Both make great processors, and while I own a P3 I must say that i think its great that AMD really shows a genuine appreciation for its customers. They could sell their processors for so much more if they wanted to. The P4 is good, but for as fast as it is, it should really do more. Just pure speed isnt the greatest thing in the world. Hopefully the competition will end up benefiting all of us.
