You could go all the way up to 2000grit. HOwever just so you know a mirror finish will do nothing for you as far as temps go and after all no one will be able to see it.

so about 1200grit is good enuff right ? and is there certain motions one has to do and how long does it take

Your best bet man is to PM Cathar or Fettig. These guys are the hard hitters of the watercooling world.

i used 400, 600, 800, 1200 for my block
spent about 15min on each paper, put some soap/water on each one too.
i did mine in circle form (wax on, wax off), big mistake, it gives a convex look. did it over again, forward, left, forward, left. and that fixed it. all you really need is 600, going higher 'might' make your temps like, waht, .05c better? i did it because i wanted shiny block :D

don't push down too hard, let the sandpaper do the work. you shouldn't have to really push at all just enought to keep it on the surface of which you're lapping.

so basically i just glide it left pick up and glide it again, repeat for 15 mins with little soapy + water, and then change grit and repeat except for up and down motion next?

you don't have to pick it up if you don't want to, and i didn't use soap, just lots of water.

oh so i can basically glide it left/right motion and then go vertical motion type after switching grit?

Try going to the Swiftech web site (www.swiftnets.com I think). They have a nice pdf about it.

Good to have something flat to slap on the bottom of it to make sure your not getting any convexing. Also, put your sand paper down on a piece of grannit, if possible, otherwise use a paine of glass (something extremely flat).

Read what Cathar says in this ocfaq thread (http://www.ocfaq.com/forum_new/showthread.php?t=82).
