View Full Version : Safe temps for PIII 750 overclocked to 901mhz
I have my PIII 750mhz cpu overclocked to 901mhz. The cpu temp will get as high as 50 or 55 degrees C. Is this too hot! If so what would anyone recommend as a safe max cpu temp? Thanks!
If that's at idle then you're way too hot. It's still within a Pentium's threshold but you want it lowered quite a bit. At idle I personally wouldn't want to be over about 35C. Full load temps high point should be in the mid 40's.
What type of cooling are you working with? If it's stock I would look into purchasing some better air cooling as soon as possible.
The temps I am getting are at load running Quake III. At idle the temps are around 28 C. I am runnging stock cooling. Do you have any suggestions for other cooling methods? Thanks!

What motherboard do you have?
My mother board is the Abit BX-133 Raid.
If stock is what you're using then just about anything will be better. You could probably even get more out of that chip with better cooling.
You are getting good idle temps but that weak little hs/fan can't get rid of all the heat generated once you stress it.
You have alot of good options. I would suggest looking in the Cooling section in this forum and see what people say about all the different air coolers out there.
FOP38 is excellent if you don't mind loud, just saw mention of the Taisol cooler, FOP32 is decent (I own one), Alpha coolers are among the best yet a bit expensive.
Everyone favors different coolers for different reasons and you will get many opinions in here. Most agree on the top performers but will always have a gripe with it no matter how good it is.
I don't mind loud and as soon as I can I'm ordering a FOP38...I just happen to like GlobalWin.

I'd recommend an Alpha heat sink and Arctic Silver thermal compound. The Alpha will get you much better cooling.

Anandtech has a pretty comprehensive review at
