View Full Version : Rumour of a new P-III stepping???
I heard that there is a new Intel P-III stepping in the offing, but I can't officially confirm it. Anyone else heard about this? One possibility that I thought of is that the new 1.13 gig chip is the new rumoured stepping. I was about ready to buy a 700 or 750 P-III, but maybe I'd better wait to see what pans out.

cDO stepping? That's been official for some time now. Don't wait, it works on a 200mHz bus. In other words, your mobo won't be compatible. Sorry.
Ok, I finally found something official about the cD0 stepping.

Fraggy, are you sure they're going to use 200 MHz bus speed? As near as I can tell from that link I posted, it would seem that the 850 will run at 100 and the 1000 will run at 133. No other CPU speeds were mentioned.
Hmmmm, maybe I should just get a C-600 cC0 for the time being until the dust settles.

The cD0 will be exactly the same as cC0, just improved further (cC0 is so shaky anyhow - cB0 is the stable choice).
There will be no bus speed differences. The chips will be as follows :
700/100
750/100
800/100
850/100
866/133
933/133
1000/133 in FCPGA format
1000/133 in a new format that looks similar to the old celeron PPGA's called FCPGA 2.
That is that
The new FC-PGA 2 has an "Integrated Heat Spreader" or IHS. What that is, I have no idea, but I'll bet it's to help with cooling. The other thing I found out is that the default CPU core voltage will be 1.75 for the new D0 stepping.
So Andy, I hear a lot of opinions that the cC0 stepping is a better overclocker than the cB0. Are you suggesting that it's the other way around? I know I've had great luck with my cB0 C-566. Any additional info would be appreciated. I'm about ready to buy another chip in my quest for 1 gig.

yeah i would like to hear more of this.. why cCo is bad... at first i thoght i got ripped off when my cBo arrieved.. was hopping for the cCo, but i got more speed than i was hoping for so i am happy with my cBo (C2 633 @105FSB)

Oh and what is with Inetl rasing the voltage every new steping ??????
Are the P3's realy that unstable? Are intel's yeilds of high end chips falling? What is up with that ? could someone please shed some light on this for me

Hmmm, saw that some time ago.Maybe it was wrong? That would be good news for Intel trying to keep up with AMD. I'm looking at the 1Gig 133 bus slot1 when it's about $250. Happy clocking!
Fraggy, you might not have too long to wait for your 1 gig CPU, I've seen the OEM ones selling for about $300 right now. There's been a 40% drop in price on that chip at some venders. Those 1 gig chips are not known to overclock very well though.
Jay, obviously Intel need to increase the voltage to milk stability out of these chips at the upper speeds, just like us overclockers do. My guess is that Andy is right about this stepping is mainly to improve stability.
I heard they changed to lower end 500 or 600 or something, to increase voltage there becuase yields where bad.
