Klipsch 5.1 isnt as loud as I think it ought to be

I have a Klipsch 5.1 with an Audigy2, however they dont seem to be loud.

For eg; The controller shows the volume from 0-80. At 60 or so I"m blasting ok, but at half, 40, its not so loud, even with all the on computer setup turned up. I've gone though and installed the latest drivers and I have gone though probably most of my options on the audigy. I suspect its my soundcard, does anyone else have this type of an issue?

Um... you said it does blast right? If so I don't see the problem but it sounds like 40 isn't half of 80 like you think it should be right? Well I think the numbers are decibles and decibles arn't linear, they are expotential so that is the way it should be if it is in dbA.

Hmm, i dont think i'm explaining myself right, I know its exponential, and that "half" way doesnt mean exactly half, but in order for them to blast I need to have them so far up that if nothing is playing I hear a hushing sound, which could be caused by my fan in the case I know, but either way I just feel like I might be ruining them.

No, that will happen with anything if you don't have a SUPER high quality amp or you don't have SUPER clean input. Unless the hush or whatever is REALLY bad I wouldn't worry about it... When I 'blast' mine I get that too and I have home made speakers with Soundstorm audio and a bad ass but old kenwood amp (happened on my last Sony amp too and every other sound system I have ever heard). If it's really bad you might wan to get some higher quality cable or try to isolate your soundcard a lil more, you could be getting more interference from other stuff than usual.

This may sound stupid but it will never hurt to check the sound settings on your card to ensure that WAV out and Master Out are at the highest output possible.

I"m thinking that the audigy2 zx EX would solve my problems since its an outside box that I will be connecting to. Is my assumption correct or is there a better solution to this hush.






P.S. Dam I wish I could just always connect my Digital Dream and always have it on. When that thing plays on my DVD's, not a single hish or hush, just perfect sound.

You might also want to mute line in and microphone and other extra channels.

I use klipsch 5.1 promedia Ultras , and a aud 2 zs plat.

The most important thing in the world is to mute LIne-in-2/mic 2, It makes a huge difference on sound quality. God damn that thing is noisy.

As far as the controls - they arent decibels, from what i read in the manual they go up to 115 db or somthing. The volume-mo-jigger-number is just that.


I was seriously reading up on amps and line conditioners and everything else until one day it popped into my head to mute the mic 2 line and boom..instant clarity. :-)

When listening to my 4.1s on music in near field, they'll play louder than I'd want them to. I never turn them up past half way.

Definitely check your sound settings and if your music levels are recorded low.
