I just myself a complete P166 system for real cheap. I've been trying to read hints/tips on OC but this is very confusing. Fortunately, I have the mobo documentation still (SQ594 mobo) but I can't figure out how to change the bus and multiplier settings via the jumpers... Its not as straightforward as other name brand mobos. Anyway, I would like to make this P166 kick a little bit more without having to get too crazy on the cooling. This is just going to be a spare PC that my kids can access the net on and play some educational games! What is the most reasonable/stable speed that I can acheive and how exactly do i do it?

I would really appreciate anyone's help as I know its gratifying to help others acheive things like this when it comes to making the most of your PC. I've read some really helpful and insightful threads! Thanks in advance if you can help...

You'll get a better improvement by increasing the Ram on the mainboard. This is easier said than done. As 72-pin Simm modules come in four flavors, Parity, True Parity, Parity NOT!, and EDO. Simms must usually be identical, too. Simms now cost four times as much as the equivalent Dimms. Let's not forget the TAG SRAM limiting the amount of Ram an ancient mobo can carry. Piece of cake, neh?

If the documentation is no help in changing Multiplier and FSB...you're in trouble. Perhaps you'll have to accept this olde machine for what it is. A P200 CPU would help, the problem is that the last time I bought one, it cost me its weight in platinum. A P200 MMX used to be less expensive--the trouble is that the mobo probably won't even boot with this CPU. Oh well, grandparents must be respected--even when you'd rather not.
