View Full Version : celeron
if i was going to buy a celeron to over clock on a slot one ga6bxc mother board.
i dont want to spend much money can any one help
Go with a 566 or 600 Celeron II, in a coppermine compatable slocket w/ voltage adjustments. I got both of mine (cC0 600's) thru e-BAY.
I paid $89 for one that was pre-tested to 945 MHz.
I paid $56 for the other (un-tested/new) that is running at 1009 Mhz.
High speeds depend solely on the individual chip itself. Not all of them go this high. I've been very lucky so far.
These two seem to be the best for o/cing.
Figure on about $15-17 for a slocket. Your also gonna need a better hsf, as the OEM intel piece just won't cut it. I've got a ThermalTake Golden Orb on both of mine (around $15, each), just WATCH the temps if you use one. If your budget allows, spring for an Alpha. Much, much better unit. I think the PEP66 runs around $30 or so.....
Good luck!
