I put in a order to build a new ocing rig last night. I ordered a xp 2600 barton, and I am debating changing it to a 2500 because that seems to be the most popular. However, since the multipliers are locked I would think the 2600 would be better with a higher multi for $10 more. I assume it would have more potential and require less voltage, stress on the chip due to it's higher stock speed. Why are people not using the 2600's? If you can get to the same FSB with both, the 2600 would be faster. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

...because
1. 2500+ are cheaper and both overclock similar.

2. If your RAM can hit 220-something FSB, you need an 11 multiplier (2500+) not 11.5 (2600+) to match that high FSB because 11.5 (2600+) would result in too high MHz value.

MHz speed = [FSB] x multiplier
220 x 11 = 2420
220 x 11.5 = 2530

High FSB is important.

true, but there is that temping "empty speed". I honestly had the same problem, i didnt know which one to get. I went with the 2500+ because i found one with the super stepping at a local store. But from what ive read the 2600+ barton does really good.

You can try the 2600+ Thoroughbred. if you get an AIUHB one it will do 2500mhz+ on air from reports.
