i have a Celeron 566@935, and im thinking about buying a P3 700e to OC it to 933 or more. I mostly use my PC for SETI and GAMES, mostly games. Will i see or not a improved performance in games? i know that in Quake3 a celeron or a P3 is the same, because the game is 3d card intensive, dosent depend that mutch on the CPU (well only at lower rez). I have a Asus V7700 Pure, and im thinking in upgrading to a NV20 when it comes out, pretty cool, eheh.
Does anyone know articles explaining the 3dcards dependency on the CPU and stuff like that (like at 640x480 the CPU matters alot, but at 1600x1200 it doesnt).

Thanks

Actually quake 3 is memory bandwidth intensive so becasue the cache on a pentium 3 is more efficiant and larger and you will be running your memory at 133mhz it should give a 20%+ boost over a celeron.
normally a celeron will perform as well as a p3 clocked about 200mhz slower but I wouldn't upgrade to a 933 as you wouldn't notice significant speed increase.

im going to upgrade to a P3 700e and OC it to 933 so the FSB will run at 133mhz

in this pic it shows that a celeron 850 is almost the same has a P3 1000 mhz in Quake3

but in Unreal Tournament the story is very diferent

this was benched with a Geforce 256 DDR

hehehehehee...of course you won't see a difference in those benchmarks because the benchmark was vid card limited not CPU limited. even a GTS already shows bandwidth limitation at 1024X768X32. try reading a review from AnandTech and you'll see the difference.

if you chose a benchmark that isn't vid card limited then you'll see a very big difference between a Pentium III and a Celeron.

I think a Celeron 566@850 can be beaten by a Pentium III 700/750...the bigger cache plays a very big role. =)

a p3 has 2x more cache then a celeron and running a celeron 566 at 9xx is pretty good you should be able to get a p3 800 up to around 960 just with the stock fan but it bottle necks but i benchmarked my asus-v7700 on a celeron 533@600 against a p3 800 at 920 and it just blew my system out of the water so i suggest a p3 instead of a celeron and good luck with upgrading from a v7700 it will cost you a @#$load of money

yeah i know, but it has lots of new features and is fast has hell
ehehehe
then im gessing ill need a good CPU to keep up with the Geforce 3

there is no question about it chap a p3 outperformes a celleron by a mile i have a p3 900 and only running at 1gig at the mo a freind of mine has a celleron 600 clocked up to a gig , no comparrison . what you need to ask yourself if you are only playin games on your pc do you need a p3 .(i wish i could get away with a celleron ) he plays both of the games you mention and has no probs.

those scores are pretty wierd.i have a p3 500mhz oc @600 and i get 69fps in Quake 3 .i also run the video @1024.i have an MSI Geforce 2
