Hi guys I have a P3 850 brand new and I am also using a FOP32 to cool it, I took off the thermal pad off the cooler and applied some arctic silver and my cpu is running at 37C idle like windows on and no other programs running this seems to be too high, can you guys comment on what I can do to bring it down

You can use a software cooler, too.

Rain or Softcooler are small and good. Both are freeware. Both are no longer distributed by the copyright holders, but are available if you search the web.

Hi , The temp of the new PIII is higher then the ones before , you are running well within specs , they can go to about 70 Celsius without cooking it . BUT... if your temps are getting a little higher it will crash sooner when overclocked. For a fresh installation your temp readings are at the high side , check if your heatsink is making firm contact with the cpu , Also check if the fan is working correct and if the fan you use has enough capacity to cool the heatsink. software cooling as mentioned in the previous post works a bit , it will not get your temps much lower. Forgot to say, how is your case temp and air circulation?
If you don't have good air flow trough your case your cooling the heatsink with warm air ! check those points and reply if you don't find anything. Good luck

Got the same prob here.

P3 800 @ 1gig

Idle is about 40 up to 58 flat out

using a case fan and a big cooler with a big fan. I must admit I have not tryed taking the stock pad off and using arctic silver after laping the cooler yet. I hope that will bring the temp down a little.

My stock fbs temps are not much lower btw.

It is reasuring that thay can go to 70 though

I run a P3 850 @954. I use Gorb to cool mine (i just got a hedgehog) and right now the idle temp is 28 and under load is 36. You might want to try and leave your case open and check it that way, that's what i do since i don't have good air flow; and that'l prove if it's your processor or your case. Also if that doesn't work try and scrape off some of the artic silver because all you need is a really thin layer.
