Adding wireless to wired network

i have a house that has 4 PC's and 1 laptop on a wired network, i am having a room redone and would like to make it wireless.

i currently have a wired router w/ 2 PC's pluged into it and 1 wire running to the top floor to a wired switch w/ the 2 other pc's on it, the laptop moves between the 2 levels. i would like to know if i can run a wire from the main router to the switch up stairs to a wireless switch. or if i need to change my set up. if you need more detail i can try and draw a picture in MS Paint.

That setup should be fine. Just be sure to disable the DHCP features on the router, and enable some security :)

Another method is to just purchase an access point and plug it into your wired switch.

just replace your router with a wireless router if the range is good.
