Anyone seen any deals on DVD-RW's? I got some dvd-r's at staples the other day but since they're pretty expensive and you can only use them once, Im saving them for important things. Im looking for dvd-rws, but I only have $15 to spend, and I havent seen them less than $25. If anyone finds some this cheap, could ya let me know? Thanks :)
christ.. for $25 you could a 25 pack of 1x DVD-RW here:
www.allmediaoutlet.com
;)
I order all my blank dvds from them.

Those are good deals. Thanks for the link. I think I'll go for a 10-pack though, because I really have no use for 25 dvd-rws, and besides I only have $15 to spend.

What's the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R? Looking to make some archive for my DVD movies - which media should I go with that'll work in my DVD players (namely Sony)?

I have personally tested Memorex and Kypermedia DVD+R in a sony dvd player, and they work great. I hear that the +R are better for compatibility.

I've been burning DVDs for years, DVD-R is the way to go. DVR+R were literally garbage, they've gotten better but they are still second to DVD-R.

I also prefer -r since it's compatible with my settop dvd player. But obviously, it's different with everyone. Are any rw formats compatible with any players? I was thinking it'd be nice and convenient to say record a pats game and burn it and enjoy it on the tv, then just delete it when Im done.

I use +R works in everything I have tried, except a RCA DVD player, but that player wouldn't even place VCD's nor the DVD instinct.
Concerning the +RWs, Spacey, yes...they do work in many drives. I have used Philips DVD+RWs in my NEC DVD burner, in an IBM Thinkpad T30, in a Dell laptop (don't remember which kind), and my squadron's Sony Dvd player. Gave me a bit of trouble in the Sony getting to the root menu, but once it started, it worked great.
As for the prices, I'd like to bump the post...Are there any deals out there from $15 to $20 on DVD RWs?
On that same note, if there aren't the 25$ deals are good.
I'm still trying to decide which format I want to go with for good, DVD+R seems a bit sketchy, works fine in my Toshiba, doesn't read in the Panasonic, works fine in my PS2, and, gives errors when trying to scan in PowerDVD (playing through the Memorex DVD Dual format burner, go figure).
I think the -R format is the best way for me, I've burned about 10 different -Rs with no issues on any players, and these are the cheapo 1x Compusa house brand.

This is a bit more money but it's still a decent deal on Verbatim 2.4x DVD+RW 10 Pack in Jewel Cases Only $18.95 ($17.05 with 10% off coupon)
Use MC Exclusives for 10% off
I bought a 10 pack last week and its decent media (Verbatim is usually very good or extra terrible, these ones are the good ones) I usually buy only TDK DVD-R but I wanted a few +RW's and tried these.

Thanks for the link, but the player I have (a pioneer) only works with -r as far as I can tell. The burner I have included two sample discs, one +r and the other +rw, and neither of them worked . This may be due to operator error, however I later burned a -r disc and it worked. So since I know -r's work in my player, I figure I'll stick with them until I can find a deal on +r's that I just can pass up.
I have personally tested Memorex and Kypermedia DVD+R in a sony dvd player, and they work great. I hear that the +R are better for compatibility.
DVD-R is more compatible than +R by a long shot. +R wont play in a lot of dvd players i tried, but -r always worked. (didnt work on 1, but the dvd player was as old as i was:p )
FYI: Ritek G04 DVD-R media is the best you can get. Hands down.
$46 shipped for a 50 pack on .
I've burned this media and its worked in drives that every other media wouldnt work in :)newegg (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-132-315&depa=0)

The compatability thing is a total gimmick. Using your guys' logic; because my DVD+Rs work in every DVD player I own (currently 6), then they are MUCH more compatable.
Look, DVD+Rs and DVD-Rs will hopefully someday both be ruled out in favor of an all compatable DVDR. The only reason they are compatable in some and not the others, is because the people who made them, two different money making entities altogether, pay a certain company to make it that way. It's money that drives companies to make certain medias compatable. So I say blame capitalism. Good in theory, bad in practice.
This is not the place to argue over the compatibility of DVD-/+Rs (or the effectiveness of capitalism), as each of us has different experiences.
The purpose of the thread was to uncover low prices on good DVDs, and I think we will all agree that some brands are certainly more reliable, if not compatible, than others.
If you have 6 drives, perhaps you know of some good places to buy good media.

Thats because maybe your dvd players are fairly new
this is from dvdrhelp.com
DVD-R and DVD-RW
DVD-R/W was the first DVD recording format released that was compatible with standalone DVD Players.
DVD-R is a non-rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 92% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD-RW is a rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 76% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD-R/W supports single side 4.7 GB* DVDs(called DVD-5) and double side 9.4 GB* DVDs(called DVD-10).
These formats are supported by DVDForum.
DVD+R and DVD+RW
DVD+R/W has some "better" features than DVD-R/W such as lossless linking and both CAV and CLV writing.
DVD+R is a non-rewritable format and it is compatible with about 87% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD+RW is a rewritable format and is compatible with about 76% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD+R/W supports single side 4.7 GB* DVDs(called DVD-5) and double side 9.4 GB* DVDs(called DVD-10).
These formats are supported by the DVD+RW Alliance.
yeah, that sounds about right :)

In America, you watch DVDs, in Russia; the DVDs watch you.

:D
Anyone remember like a few years back when all this dvdrw stuff was like thousands of dollars for slow write speed drives, and many dollars for a single dvd? Why are prices falling? There has to be a new type of media coming out...

Yes, new burners are coming out in March, I believe. They're going to be Dual Layer burners...
