my Maxtor 40gig hdd is Ticking !!!
It sounds like its powering on/off/on/off, not at even intervals but pretty often. I used to have my OS on there, and when it Ticks, the computer would freeze. So i formated it, move the system to another drive. The 40gig maxtor drive seems to work, though its still ticking. It ticks more often when i write to a floppy. And if i try to boot from A: drive it does not boot, unless i disconect this drive, from the IDE cable.

What is going on Here?
Is this drive slowly but surely dying, and i should back up all data from it, and get rid of it?
Or is there somethign i can do?

Doesn't sound good. DL the Maxtor diagnostic here;
http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/files/powermax.exe and run it on the drive, and try a new IDE cable. Even if nothing turns up, back up all your data, and contact Maxtor to see if you have any remaining warranty, and if you can get an RMA. From the sound of it, if you have stuff you can't afford to lose, now's the time to take preventive measures.

Thats why I suggest contacting Maxtor. The noise alone may be sufficient for an RMA if you are still warrantied.
