View Full Version : higher fsb not always better in this case
High ladies and gents just lettin people no with the celly 2 if u are runnin 133 ram u may not be using it to its full capability i use to run my 566 cbo at 986 witch would give it a fsb 116 and the ram would run at 116fsb so i lowered it to 935 110 fsb and put my ram at 133 and now its running at 146mhz compared to the 116 mhz before well now at 935 it smokes my 986 hope this helps some off u out it did me.

half of the reason that higher FSB's give better performance is bandwidth to memory, the other half is bandwidth to all other peripherals through the north/south bridges.
If you had some decent memory and were able to run at host plus a ratio at 986, your system would fly even more.
I know what you are saying though - I have options of 945Mhz with 140Mhz RAM 6/8 and 1035Mhz with 115Mhz RAM 5/7
What option runs faster for u the 945 6/8 or the 1035 5/7 im just wondering because my ram is running at cas 2 with 146 but i wonder if i could run it at 986 with the ram at cas3 witch would be 6/8

On my ASUS P3V4X, if i set the fsb to 83 on my Celeron II 700 (877mhz) ii would have the option for 1/1 ratio or 2/3 or auto. I always thought auto was not good. I set it to 1/1, and my 192mb of PC133 ram was running @ 83mhz !!!! Then i set it to auto and now it is running @ 126mhz cas2. If i can get to 100fsb or even 95 i will have a much higher ram effiecency and then i will be @ 997mhz...beat that, waiting for new soyo mobo with raid and ata100 support!!!
