View Full Version : What does a blank blue screen mean (I get when playing halo)?
It's not like a BSOD with wording but just blue. I think it may be temp related, but my temps only seem to peak at 48c while playing... just wondering what's the deal and if I should lower my OC. TIA :)

48°c on your CPU isn't ludicrously hot, esp if you're oc'ed. What are you cpu/system temps @ idle & load like?
What os are you running? I get the feeling that this is a software issue. 48°c doesn't seem hot enough to crash your system imo. Have you upgraded to any new drivers for any hardware lately? Any new software installs that might conflict w/ a hefty graphically intensive game like Halo?

halo is pretty stressful on your system...your CPU may not be overheating, but it could very well be your memory or more likely your video card.
Make sure that your video card fan is still working.....it could be clogged with dust to make it stop moving, or the fan could have died.
If you have your card overclocked, try dropping the OC and then play.
The next thing would be to drop the OC on your memory....
blue screens are often caused by hardware.....without a specific error message it's hard to tell. Other things to try are to update all of your drivers (bad drivers can cause a blue screen), and make sure you have the latest version of directX.
also, before you do anything, run dxdiag (just type dxdiag in the run command box and press OK)....go through it and look for errors, and also run all the tests. This is a good place to start when trying to track down errors while playing games.
thx for the replies, I'm gonna check inside my pc and then play with my vid card settings... my vid card has ceramique and the iceberg on it, and is only slightly oced. But I shall check that dxdiag and try n' download 3dmark (i have lost it somewhere on my drive :-\ )
cheers xtern
The only two thing that seemed to be hot were the grafix ram and the psu itself... gonna get 3dmark now, which freeware one should I get?
also I have dual monitors, does this affect the oc of my graphics card... and if so is there a software prog to manage this?
Maybe I should post on the video section :-\

I'm not sure how dual monitors effect a video card's oc. I've never ran a system w/ 2 monitors.
For your 3dMark apps... download FutureMark 3dMark03 (the latest version). Also download MadOnion's 3dMark01 SE. I also run Aquamark3. BTW, you can find all these apps here (http://www.guru3d.com).
thx yellowdart, I'm on it.
