Would anyone else consider using Holesaws instead of a dremel or drills to cut out fan circles?

It is very commonly done. It's the only thing I use for fan-holes.

I use them all the time. They are much cleaner and faster than any other method imo. Another plus is most fan grills have a centered hole you can put the drill bit in and make a perfectly centered fan hole.

The only thing is they the price, if your only going to use it once, it might not be worth it to you. But thats all on you, if you want to spend the money for a tool you might only use once or twice, go for it. my 2c

I only use hole saws to cut fan holes. I use my Dremel to clean things up if I need to. A hole saw cuts a much cleaner hole.

Take an 8 penny nail (or something w/ a sharp tip), and tap it into the center of where you want to drill so the bit will follow it perfectly. Not always possible I guess, but when you can USE IT. Ok, ok all of you knew this already.

THanks for all replies. I think I changed my mind for the better. A guy I know down the street has hole saws... so price = $0.00 *Sweet* I have my dremel and was just going to take a circular saw to it and then clean it up.
Thanks

A cut off disk.. LOL.... geeze scared me there.... I know you can get metal cutting 7 1\4 blades for circular saws.... but for a fan! LOL.
Best of luck......

:( little noobish with the dremel. Got it for x-mas. New tool to me. Someone came over and showed me a few things with it. Sorry if any cause of a heart attack came about.

You could only imagine the look of a holesaw cut using a Circular saw. :D

Sorry, but can someone explain to me what the actual hole saw is? I seem to find the bits quite easily, do they fit on power drills/drill presses easily?

they re drill bits that have a circular shaped saw (thus the name), so they cut a perfect circle. and usually quite cleanly too.
if you could find one thats the right size of the fan hole you want, itd be a snap. just put a mark where you want the centre (quoting what DeatONator said), and you'll have a perfectly circular hole exactly where you want it in no time. thing is youd have to make sure to hold the dremel tool perfectly straight the whole time:S. i ve only used these on a drill press, so i dont know how hard thatd be.
but ya, thats a really good idea:)
alot easier than drawing a circle and hand cutting it:D
