Pardon the little guy with the dual flip-off as topic icon, he was too cute to resist and figured it would get your attention. Also as a preemptive strike at would be smartass responders. :-)
From listening to you guys advice and opinions I've narrowed my mobo choice down to the Asus CUSL2-C or the Abit SH6. I already have an Abit Slotket!!!. Here is the dumb question of the year. Is there any chance whatsoever that a Slotket will ever be offered to enable a P4 CPU to run on an i815 Slot 1 board?
Also, from pics I've seen of the SH6 it looks like the HSF will overhang the Chipset. Not sure if this is an asset or liability . I wonder if the proximity to the Airflow around the Slotket area will sufficiently cool the chipset, or if the heat radiating from the heatsink would cause a performance hit to the chipset. Doesnt look like enough clearance between the heatsink and the chipset to apply a dditional cooling. Anyone cooling the chipset on the SH6?

DUURP! I don't think so! Check out the # of pins on the bottom of a p4. Around 480+.Compare to the number of 'pins' on the edge of the slot card, and there you have your answer.

WHY would you wanna run a p4 anyway? Even with 4-channel RAMBUS the Athlon kicks it a$$ at a lower speed. SSE2? In the next (or next-but 1) gen of Athlons.

LOL
Thanks Mark. I guess I'm just fixated on Intel. Maybe an aluminum helmet would shield me from the Intel brainwashing signals.

no no nnoo nnnooo NO!

The helmet MUST be made of lead!

That's the ONLY way it'll work!

You can't go wrong with that Asus board you mentioned, but if you like Abit, why not go for the SE6 or the SL6, both are 370 socket i815 boards, then you don't have to mess with a sloket. I have the SE6 (because I wanted the ATA 100 controller) and there is lots of room for my massive GlobalWin FOP38 cooler. My only complaint is that the fsb settings are usually in 5 MHz increments (with some exceptions) compared to the 1 MHz increments of some other boards. That aside, my SE6 has been a great stable board, with no problems. However, the Asus might be a better choice for extreme overclocking, since I believe it's more tweakable.

ROTFL Mr B! Dunno if my pencil neck can support the weight of a lead hemet.
Thanks Batboy, haven't seen too many reviews for the SH6 but the ones I have seen put it at even par with the SA6R. After reading your advice I did a little more research and found that neither is all that great. The SE6 doesn't quite reach the performance of the CUSL2-C . I think the CUSL2-C is gonna be the one I'll go with despite some bad press re:warranty issues in the forum. If I want RAID in the future I can get a Promise controller. Thanks for your input.
