Would you kind people running p3's post your temps so I can compare them to mine. Asus cusl2-c bios 1003 says 50c at idle and mobo at 28 - 30c. Pc probe says 41c for the cpu and 28 - 30 on mobo and sandra says 27c on cpu and 29c on mobo (know thats not right) I have a sucker and a blower ( o lucky me) and after 10 loops of q2 crusher demo probe reads 56c on cpu and 32c on mobo. Also have the retail hs/fan on cpu, system is steady and hs is hardly warm to the touch.

p3 866@903
asus cusl2-c
IBM 30gig ata100
voodoo3 2000 pci @default

also intel says 85c is max for this cpu now thats hot

Hi, yours temps seems to be high, consider that my father have a PIII 800EB (FSB 133) with Golden Orb on a Mobo MSI6337E and the Cpu Temps are 37-38 degree C at Idle and 47-48 at full load with Folding@Home.
I think that you must replace your Hsf with an Alpha Pal6035, Swiftech MC370-0A, or Fop-38 and good thermal paste like Artic Silver.
Try also to monitor temperatures with MotherBoardMonitor 5.04, you found at mbm.livewiredev.com

Cool with SoftCooler by MSI and an Alpha PAL 6035. I run about 30 and 30 plus or minus a few degrees. I just took the SoftCooler off and watched the temps both rise to 40 degrees before the alarm on my Motherboard Probe started sounding.

Abit SE6 with PIII 700 @ 933 MHz.

1.90 volts with the new VK BIOS.

Nice and stable. I tried 1.85 volts again last night and my CPU was not stable at all.

Time to toast some marshmellows....wow! You need better cooling ASAP.

Chief?,
Are you using a software cooler?

I tried the software cooler in pc probe and it does nothing. I thought the retail hs/fan was good but if my bios is reading right maybe not. Is there a chance the bios temp is not reading right ?

Sure, there could be a few degrees inaccuracy. But, that's still too hot. When I first joined the forum, my load CPU temp was in the low 40's and I thought that was ok. Tim and others convinced me it was too hot, so I worked hard and long on case mods, adding extra fans, getting better thermal paste, and lapping my new GlobalWin heatsink. My temps went from 41-42 (C-566 @ 850 MHz) to 33 degrees C. Additionally, I was able to go from a max of 952 to a stable 978 speed, because with better cooling, I could now also use a higher voltage. In my humble opinion, ditch that retail heatsink and get a good Alpha or GlobalWin and some more case fans. Heat is the enemy!
