View Full Version : Overclocking PIII 800E slot 1 on P3V4X MoBo, only 992MHZ, WHY NOT MORE???????

I have:
PIII 800E slot 1
Asus P3V4X motherboard up to 150MHZ on the FSB, only 16 settings
128 MB RAM Mushkin PC 133 Rev.3 rated 2-2-2@150MHZ
Geforce2 GTS video card
Seagate Barracuda 30.0 GB 7200 RPM

I can only overclock to 992MHZ, 8.0x124fsb. It won't even post with the front side bus at 133MHZ. I have a golden orb on the processor, would it help to change it? I even have a heatsink fan combo on the northbridge which does keep the motherboard a little cooler. Would I overclock higher with a Socket 370 PIII instead, using a slockett adapter? My processor is made in Costa Rica, would one from, lets say Maylasia overclock higher?

Any help is appreciated I want this thing to go higher!
8.0x150fsb=1200MHZ would be nice:>}

I run the same PIII on an ASUS CUSL2 and mine limits out the same. My CPU is from Malaysia. I am pretty familiar with high-end over-clocked systems (I have built them for 3 years now) and I see that as a limitation of the PIII-800E. It is a great chip though. I do know that the PIII 1GHz SiSoft specs are not greatly different than the 800E. In otherwards, if you want to go from the 8 to the 10, you won't see the actual difference, but you can measure it with the proper software.

If you check the CPU-database is will show you this:
-------
Total Entries in Database for Pentium III 800 - 124
Average overclocked speed - 985 Mhz
-------
So I guess 992 MHz isn't that bad? At least it's more than the average 800MHz P3, according to the database...

But still, with another motherboard and some better cooling, I think it might go a bit higher, but I'm not sure that it is worth the cost.

Thanks for all the advice so far guys.

I had a PII 350 3.5x100, unlocked, and clocked it at 3.0x150 with some cheap memory, to get 450MHZ, my highest overclock. Wouldn't do it @ 3.5x150. Shouldn't I expect at least the same performance from my PIII 800? After all isn't it a better chip.

All chips are different, my son.

My craptacular P3 700 will barely puke by at 805. Be happy...be very happy. I can't wait to turn to the AMDarkside.
