View Full Version : Getting more voltage out of the same old mobo...
Is it possible to get more voltage out of a motherboard? I have a slot 1 type processor, but i need to increase the voltage. My motherboard only supports up to 1.85V . Is it possible to put another device somewhere like in between the cpu and the motherboard to give me more voltage? Thanks all
Yes and maybe,
The yes is that you can use wire on the pins of the CPU to allow higher voltage. It is a bit more risky, than doing a voltage change on the motherboard.

You will have to find a web site that explains what wire to use to make the change on the pins. I personally haven't got the guts to do the wire thing.
Also, if you are using a motherboard that allows a change in voltage from the BIOS instead of by jumpers, then a BIOS upgrade could be done. If you are lucky a new BIOS version might support higher voltage as some of the new chips need more volts.
I personally havent tried this but apparently if you raise your core voltage to the max setting and then flash the bios your maximum voltage settings change.
Just dont forget that if you do this and your limits were 1.65 - 1.95 they might end up as 1.85 - 2.2, get what I mean?
