Most lan sites are not willing to dedicate the resources that would be required to provide PC's for all of the participants.

Thus most sites require the participant to bring their own PC, monitor, mouse, headphones, etc. The participant also brings their own legal copy of the software.

The site provides the building, restrooms, trash service, server, tables, chairs, software patches/updates, power distribution, network switches and network cables. (And internet connection if needed)

Food and drink arrangements vary widly.

How many gamers are you planning to accomidate in your lan room?

What I am trying to do is to set up at a CompUSA a LAN game room.
What I need to know is what I needed.
I am a friend with the GM at the store near me and talk to him about it.
He would love to rent out the room and even provide prizes for winners. So on.

You'll need a server with the different games you wish to have along with the mods and patches for said games. Also would be a good idea to have extra ethernet cables in case someone forgets to bring one.

you could also hook up a projector so that people could watch certain games, say a tournament or somthing. and you definetily need some food. otherwise people might get too hungry and go home:eek: i like the idea of prizes because that would make it more fun to compete.

I would invest in a large switch as well, its what the local LAN uses. Having a server with all the latest game patches and updates is also nice. I would definetly set it up as a "bring your own rig" event, with perhaps the option to rent one supplied by the store or some other similar arrangement. Game wise I would run tournaments for the newest games, including Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield 1942 and perhaps C&C Generals. For food the local usually does pizza or what they call "fend for yourself." Other than that make sure to have plenty of chairs and tables along with power strips. Circulation, ahh, there's nothing like 30 sweaty guys in a room with a bunch of PC's, that will heat the place up REAL quick, need lots of fans and stuff, i'm guessing mount the on the cieling in corners
