I just got my stuff. So here is the rundown

2.4c SL6Z3
Abit AI7
1Gb of Muskin Black LVL2 PC3500
SP-94
Tornado 92mm fan


What steps should i take Besides bumping the FSB up to 250 or so( I know the basics of OCing ) I'd like to hit 3.2 - 3.4 stable.

Any help would be nic

disable gat ( set to a-a-a-d-d )
change the ratio to 5:4
set timings to 2-3-2-6
bump up to 250 fsb

On the IC7 the GAT settings are located on the same BIOS menu as the RAM timings (advanced menu I think). The last two settings on the screen should be "disabled". The AI7 is probably the same since it's still the Soft Menu BIOS. Shortbus gave some good advice. Also make sure to "fix" the PCI/AGP.

also what is the big deal with cranking the RAM voltage upto
3.2v?

I think it stands for Game Acceleration Timing or something like that (not completely sure). It's mainly for people that don't like to manually tweak their RAM timings. Personally, I've found that it don't do much except that you'll have instability if the last two settings are not disabled.

If you are really pushing your RAM overclock way past spec, sometimes extra vdimm voltage adds stability just like extra vcore voltage can make the CPU more stable. I would just use 2.7v or 2.8v at first until you find the limits of your CPU/mobo. You should be able to do 270 to 275 FSB with that Mushkin before having to raise vdimm too much. High vdimm like 3.2v runs the RAM hotter and can burn out modules if used for long periods of time. Fortunately, Mushkin can handle a lot of abuse.

Use the 5:4 ratio.

Aha! (says the dumb newb thats typing this reply)

Could that possibly be doing something to do with my poor game play in Battlefield 1942.

I have to look for that setting. The last 2 should be disabled?

Yep, if you cruise through some of the posts in the Intel Abit motherboard section, you'll find lots of info about GAT settings. I use auto,auto,auto,disable,disable. Others use auto,normal,auto,disable,disable and some even use auto,F1,auto,disable,disable. Play around with the first three settings and benchmark them if you want, but the general agreement is the last two settings need to be disabled.

I've seen ram that is lifetime warrentied with extended voltage protection. Like the one of the OCZ gold, 500Mhz I think, was warrentied to 3.0v.
