Iīve a Pentium III 800Emhz, 128mb PC 133 and a Voodoo 3 3000 PCI 16mb. I donīt know what is my motherboard, but using CPUinfo I know that the CPU socket is Socket 370 (FC-PGA). I want to know if I just change the processor speed in Bios I will have any modification in my system. If no, how I overclock my system. My motherboard is on-board.

If you have the settings in your BIOS to allow you to change the FSB then great, you have what you need to o/c. Just increase the FSB only, the 800E is multiplier locked at 8 so you cant adjust that. Your chip is set at 8 * 100 right now, so up the FSB.

Chris, my motherboard works on 133mhz. Will I have problems with temperature?

Good luck with that 800E. I've got one and I cant even post @ a fsb of 133. I can only get into windows @ 976 but locks up on me after a while. At 960mhz she's rock solid. I have good cooling but she just wont go.

I'm hoping a guy at work will buy this system from me so I can build me a AMD 1200 rig! Never used AMD but I'm gonna give it a shot. Anything has got to be better then this dog ass 800E!

Not that I'm ripping on Intel. My old 600E ran stable @ 840mhz. That was an Awesome chip. But I sold it to buy this 800 in hopes of reaching 1ghz. And I just got dissappointed thats all. Wish I would have went with the 700e instead.

Well good luck. I hope you have better luck then I did.

Hey Chris, What stepping is your cpu? Mine is cBo. Also My cpu is a slot 1 where yours is a fcpga. I used to have a 50w peltier on the chip and I could get in at 1000mhz but would never run 100% stable. That was at 1.9v as well. But even then it would only run 100% stable at 960mhz so I took the peltier out. (besides my pc is underneath my thermostat and with the peltier it was kickin so much heat out of the case the furnice would never kick in!).

Here are my specs:

PIII 800 @ 960 w\PIII alpha (kick ass cooler!)
Abit BE6-II
Maxtor 20 gig ata 66
quantum 15 gig ata 66
256 mb's corsair pc133 cas3 (i know should have got cas2)
V5 5500 AGP
SoundBlaster Live Value
Mitsumi 4x4x24x cd-rw
Acer 8x4x32x cd-rw

Let me know if you have any tips or Idea's. I'll give em a try before I sell this rig.

Last night I try to overclock changing of 100/133 to 133/133, then x8 the processor clock reached 1066mhz. But the system freezes. Why?

the 800 is a tricky one to over clock due to the locked 8X multiplyer. if your board only allows fsb of 100 or 133 then the good news is you dont have to know about pci clock speed. the bad news is 133 x 8 = 1064 and thats a lot. if you still want it id say you should look into some nice cooling. my golden orb wont let me go past 1050 stable with a 800..these chips are good but they require some fancy bios to catter to them. some one probley already said it but see if youve got a cco or cbo chip. sisoft sandra 2000 will tell you. if its cco your chances of waisting your money are a lot less. have fun dont get frusterated.
