Heres another question for you. I'm planning on joining the Team 32 folding team here at O\C Forums when I get the V-11+ installed on the MN31N & Barton rig, they have a folding@home program using Knoppix Linux which I had planned on downloading separately before I discovered the folding version. Anyone have any experiences\opinions on Folding and\or Knoppix Linux?

Regards, Balrog

I've run knoppix for a while, it's a great distribution that runs off of cd. It has seti, prime, and folding all on the distribution. I think you'll enjoy it.

Thanks for the replies All! I've still gotta get the old V-11+ installed, been caught up on with my case design but I think I've got the bugs worked out of it and will start machining this week.

I ran Knoppix for a while, but then I got tired of not being able to play games on it. That and not all the programs would run when I told them to. Especially the media software. How can I watch porn when the icon just sits and spins and no programs load 90% of the time?

I'm still interested in running Linux, even if it has to be a dual boot, but Knoppix ****ed me off and it was supposed to be one of the easiest, most stable distros. I tried to install Mandrake and it tells me it "cannot mount on drive" or something to that effect. And I can't get SuSe anywhere. Does any distro have good media playback software?

I actually used Xine in Knoppix and that was the program that gave me the most crap. Has anyone else had the problem where they have to try to open a file 10 times before the application will load properly? Is there anything that can be done about it?

I got a copy of Knoppix today at the school's pc lab were I work and I don't think it's anything special. Still not as good as the unix based macOSX but that's just me. My buddy, who is a anti-virus admin / assistant network admin, has 2000pro and Mandrake on his rig at work. He seems to like Mandrake very well but his only other linux experience was with suse which he hates. I wrote before in another thread that he got the first AMD rig out of 250+ puters, well, he's got a compaq with a XP 3200 but the memory is @166. Weird huh? Compaq also charged $100 more for 1G dual channel opposed to 1G single channel. :-/ The memory is infineon and mushkin which is also strange.

Yeah I never got around to Knoppix, been hearing its not all that great, might try Redhat or something. Got 3 rigs folding now(6.2Ghz), might add a 4th(1.5Ghz).
