I was curious, I have DDR 400 ram and an 2800+ with a fsb of 166. During boot up the computer recognizes the ram as DDR400 (it specifically says that for memory) Assumeing i make no changes to the fsb (i plan to) am i getting any sort of performance benefit over DDR333?
Sorry if this is a stupid question. Thanks in advance
Kevin
It "may" be possible to tighten some timings a little, just try one at a time and see how she goes.
it would be nice to see a thread of your completed experiment with that

I think i wasn't really clear with what I was trying to ask. I'll explain the whole thing. I hooked up some hyperX ddr400 ram into the computer in my sig (it is the ram in my sig, not an additional stick) and when the computer boots it recognizes the ram as ddr400. If I then go into the bios and change the memory timings and reboot it recognizes the ram as ddr333. If i change the timings back it still boots as ddr333, so i'm wondering is there a performance change from when it booted as ddr400. I'm thinking the only reason it loads as ddr333 is because the factory settings of the ram are modified so it doesn't get a signature (whatever) from the ram.
Since i'm gonna over clock my computer anyway this doesn't really matter, i'm just curious.

P.S. Also, how come if i change the fsb (even if to 200) when i boot the memory will say 400 mhz, or whatever double the setting is. why wouldn't it say ddr400, or whatever the ram is.
Technically, you should see a performance decrease form running the memory faster than the FSB, it is also more unstable. Ideally you should always run memory 1:1 with the FSB which is in sync so youll be downclocking the memory from 200 to 166.
