View Full Version : how do u get XP to read a larger than 137G HDD again?

I did i t once but i forgot how to do it.

137GB barrier can be caused by having the 48-bit address limit. Some BIOS updates correct this or you'll have to use a controller card.

What file system are you using? (FAT32 or NTFS)

It will have to be NTFS if you want it to be larger.

im using NTFS file system. its not my bios. i had win2k and enabled the use of large HDDs. i just got a copy of XP and am cleaning my drives up and i want to reformat the drive (160Gig) but it only reads it as 137Gig. so i need to enable it but i forgot how. and everything on the net is comfusing me. :(

Is that copy of XP sp1? If not, it'll need to be updated.

Yeah, redduc900 nailed it. I went in and looked at how my server 2003 registry was setup and it was exactly the same as in redduc's linked post.

a lil confused at first by got the new registry and it has worked im at 149G available so hopefully everything will work out with no major FUBARs :P

REDDUC900 and others... thanks for taking the time to help me out. :)
