Hi. I'm a new poster to this forum but have always lurked. This forum and the cpu dbase rules!

I have a stick of crucial 512mb pc2100 bought from newegg 2 years ago. I used it originally on a k7s5a board with an xp1800. 6 months ago the crappy ecs broke and I upgraded to an asus a7v600 with a barton 2500 but didn't want to throw away my old ram. So I used it and overclocked my 2500 to 2.08Ghz by running at 166 fsb x 12.5.

About a week ago I was experimenting and set the multiplier back to 11 but decided to run the fsb @ 200. So far I have kept the same settings and it's been stable with no lockups. My question is will my system fry by doing this? Should I buy a pair of real 3200 ram?

A7V600 w/ Barton 2500 @2.2GHz
512 Crucial 2100
128MB MSI GeForce 4 Ti 4200
2 120GB seagate sata @ raid 0 w/ 64K blocks
Pioneer DVR106D
Aopen CRW5224
Fortron 530watt psu

Wow, how'd you get your 512MB Crucial stick to do that speed?!?

I have the same stick, Crucial PC2100 512MB, and wouldn't do 280MHz without setting the timings super high.

What timings are you running? What voltage? What tests have you run, & for how long?

I had 2 sticks of Crucial 512MB PC2100 that would do 184mhz with ease. All at stock 2.5v and spd timings (2.5-3-3-7). It was great.

Here are my bios settings:

CPU speed: 2200Mhz
CPU freq Mult: 11
CPU external freq: 200/33
Mem Freq: Auto
CPU Vcore: 1.7v
AGP Voltage: Auto
DRAM Voltage: Auto
SDRAM config: by SPD
SDRAM cas latency: 2.5T
SDRAM ras to cas: 3T
SDRAM ras precharge: 3T
SDRAM active prechareg 6T

I haven't run any real tests except day to day tasks like Asp.net, Forte Agent, winrar, smartpar, nero, stomp record now and wc3 battlenet matches. I have been running it round the clock for 14 days with no lockup and no restarting. Well, 1 restart to check the bios settings. I find that if a computer locks up while playing ffa again 11 computers in warcraft3 then it's unstable.

Temps are a bit high accdg to mbm. 45C @ idle and 52C @ load. Case temp constant @ 32C. I'm using a DR THERMAL TI-V77N. I'm planning to get a thermalright heatpipe. But should I buy 3200 ram first? Or save the mullah for another toy like a sweet gigabit switch?:D

The RAM should be fine, if you're worried just snap some ramsinks on. You should also run Prime95 for a few hours to test stability. I have the same RAM you have, it's great :-P

Ok thanks, I'll do some prime95 testing on it. Maybe that will expose real instability.

are you running your mem at 1:1, cuz i was trying to run my pc2100 the other day at 200mhz and by using the AUTO settings, nearly how you had yours set, and i was running something other than 1:1.

The Crucial PC2100 I put in my sister's comp will do 185 no problem at 2.5 CL... she doesn't know this of course ;) I never tried to run it faster, but IMO if it's not overheating it should be no problem at 200MHz.

Whoa, I had to ram(pun intended) 2.9v's into my old Crucial 2100's just to get 153Mhz out of em, at those same timings.

Waynebike, how can I find out if I am running my mem at 1:1?
