a steady M2 LED represents that there is an internet connection.
Im using a D-Link DI-704P REV. B
the problem is i can get on the internet for a while and then after awhile like 6 mins or so it cuts off. i dont know the reason for this. pls help

First the obvious question. ;) Have you tried power cycling the modem and the router? I have found that it will fix this problem most of the time. If that doesn't work you can give your ISP a call and have them check your address to see if anyone else is using it. I have had this happen numerous times. Some of the older OS'es don't like to switch over when the ISP sends out a new IP. Since ISP's like to recirculate addys this problem sometimes pops up.

What's power cycling the modem and router mean? like reset them / turn off the power?

Power cycling is just unpluging the modem / router. Then waiting 30 secs so it will lose the IP it has (complete power loss). Once thats done plug it back in and wait for it to reconnect to the server. I don't know if there is a particular order that should be followed. I usually do the modem first then the router.

Sharkman i just tried recycling the power. heres how i did it. i upplugged the modem first for 30 secs then plugged it in again. after that i unplugged my router to 30 secs then plugged it back but it dint work. it still had the same problem
i ticked the "auto-Reconnect" in the router web based configuration n it still doesnt work.
I have WINXP it's not a SP1 nor 2 nor 3 just the first release. Is tat a OS problem?
I dint tell anyone my broadband password or account. maybe i shud chack my ISP. but if u do have any other suggestions pls help me out. thanx
Tried to unplug both at the same time and then plug them in? So that both loses all thier power not one a time...

If those didn't fix the problem then I would guess that someone else has the same IP address you do. There’s always a chance I am wrong but it's the most plausible explanation from what you have said. What happens is this. You turn your computer on and a signal is sent to the ISP authentication server. Since you’re the current owner of the IP address it allows you access. Then the other person that still has that address in their computer logs in. When the authentication server sees that request it denies it but in turn also terminates your connection. This happens because only one computer is allowed to use an IP address at a time. It’s just like if two people tried to log into a game using the same username and password. The server will kick them both out. No one needs your username and password to have the same IP address as you. So it's not that someone stole your info it’s just they have the same IP.
I would just call your ISP and tell them you’re only able to connect to the internet for a short time and then lose the connection. They will probably do a line trace on your IP to make sure that it is you. Then try and find what the problem is. If they do find someone else is using your IP they will block that person out completely from the internet. To make them call and tell them to update their IP address because someone else (you) is currently using it.
Hopefully this will solve the problem.

There are many different ways you can do it ;)
Yes I know :) hehe
But it sounded like he only tried one of the ways, so I stated this just to be sure. ;)
