I recently picked up this cpu for a lan box (haven't tested it yet, will tom):

according to: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=244237&highlight=thorton

It should be one of the more rare post 35 week ones that are unlocked, but is there any way, to indicate if it will (or should) successfully mod into a barton, or is it just trial and error? This is my first time picking up a new xp in over a year, and from the posts I read, am getting mixed answers on this question.

There's no way you could know if the disabled cache is any good or bad w/o trying it out first. Just put the chip in try to change multipliers if the multies change fine and the speed changes accordingly then the L2 bridge trick will work. Most likely the L2 cache will work as well but there's no guarantees.
Good luck

Also, is the brown pcb, not green, so that means I won't have the clear coat on it, right?
