I have a PII 400, 196 SDRAM 100mhz, with a Diamond monster fuzion (yeah, believe me, i do have a banshee-**** in my pc), soyo 6be+ motherboard. Sometime about the winter, i oc it to 496 i place a huge fan besides it, and it worked fine. Now, at summer (about 25-30 celsius), i cant make it work not even with a huuuuge fan. I've checked my pc and system temperature in bios, and it was about 28-33 celsius (i guess that what says there its right...)...but i got a bsod about 30 seconds after turning my pc on...so, i have some questions: What could possible be wrong? Is that ram? or cpu? or video card (banshee-****)? Can anybody help?
Tx..

"Placing a huge fan beside it" works well to cool the interior of a PC, if you mean that you left the left hand side cover of your box off, and then put a house fan near it, blowing into the PC's case. This is no hassle case cooling. However, better throughput only aids CPU cooling a little. If the HSF arrangement on a CPU is weak, 1000 cfm(please don't try this at home) won't help the CPU temp very much. Ain't this APITA?

Maximum cooling of a PII is accomplished by removing its black plastic jacket. This is a ticklish procedure, you don't want a dead processor! Then an expensive HSF is applied to the business side of the CPU. The two 256 Kb L2 cache chips must be actively cooled, too. This is why real-deal heatsink and fan setups are expensive for PII's! Genuine OC maniacs also have a fan on the other side of the PCB that supports the CPU. This cools the bottom of the CPU.

AFAIK, it's impossible to really cool a PII while the plastic jacket hides the PCB. If you don't want to invest the time, effort and money needed to achieve OCing satori, I suggest backing down the FSB until next winter.

hmm nice, i really dont wanna spend more money in this crap..
But are u sure that the problem really is the cpu? It can be ram, video..etc...is there any way i can really be sure?

first off, you should get some pc133 ram. or, you can try lowering your i/o voltage, if it is possible. you should be able to get at least 500mhz stable. i have my i/o voltage at 3.2 and my core volt at 2.3. this allows me to get 150+fsb. decasing itself does not help cooling much but if you make some type of back door cooling you will benefit. you should remove your heatsink and heatsink plate so you can put some new cpu paste in place of the the intel gray stuff. all of this allowed me to get where i am with my 350. if you want to know how to decase it email me jzeisel@orofino-id.com
