Can a 9700 Pro softmod to a 9800?

Once upon I time I remember there was a softmod for a 9700 Pro to a 9800... does it still exist? Or did it not help anything?

I think it was just forcing drivers to detect 9700-series as 9800-series and that was just with the first drivers with 9800 suppport. Back then there was some optimized codepath for 9800 which is basically the same for 9700 but wasn't used with 9700 (not enough testing done). Newer drivers did have the same optimizations used for 9700 so I suppose the "softmod" is obsolete. And no, it didn't turn 9700 into a real 9800 (like some 9500np could be turned into a real 9700, 9800SE -> 9800/Pro etc..)
