I'm trying to overclock my Intel PIII500 CPU but I don't know what to do. I don't want to get a maximum out of it but can I get 1gig out of it? Or at least 800? I also tried to take off the heatsink and it seems stuck. Can someone guide me step by step as to how to disassemble the heatsink from the CPU and how I can achieve +-800mhz? Or is there a site I can look at? Thanks.

Check out the guides on the home page. The database will give you a good idea on how far your cpu will go. It's not just the cpu, you need quality components - crappy peripherals and cheapo ram will hold you back. Good cooling is essential.
You can initially start by increasing your front side bus frequency a little. If you want more answers we need more details on your system - a P3-500 doesn't really tell us anything.

800 or a GIG?!? Wow! I do not beleive that you will be able to reach that.
You have an old pIII 500 Katmai on a 100Mhz FSB(front side bus) right.
I have a pIII550 Katmai running at 671Mhz thats 122 FSB
and a pIII 450 Katmai at 567Mhz at 126 FSB.
These are maxed out! I have pretty good peripherals mother board
BE6-II v2, and micron PC133 ram.
Take those numbers with a grain of salt and try yourself.
Raise your FSB up to the next available setting and see if
it will boot (because you cannot change the multiplier).
Monitor your temp. and have fun.
