I have a PIII 866 Slot1 type cpu, and a P3125 heatsink. I want to ask how can i apply that thermal grease. I dont want to put too much, neither too less. How i did is, i covered the whole central square thing that sticks out(the one actually touches the heatsink). Plus i also covered the black plastic part right below that highest point. The place, when i was not using a thermal grease was not touching the heatsink. But now, i put enough thermal grease to make the heatsink and the black part in conduct. I didnt put anything on the green part of the cpu(that much i know). But please someone tell me excatly how to apply the thermal grease. Thank you all

You apply about a paper-thick layer of thermal grease with a razor blade or something like that. Don't use your fingers!

You only have to cover the CPU, not the surrounding plastic. Only the core that actually touches the heatsink needs the thermal paste, as this paste is to improve contact between the CPU and the heatsink.

Hope this helps.
