i never really thought that a hard drive could be good or bad but it seems that people think it can. whats the difference between a cheap drive and a more expensive one (besides space)? and what difference does the cache make? what makes a good drive verses a worse one???

ummm...assuming we compare drives with the same amount of space then a cheaper drive might be less reliable, nosier, or not as fast in reading and writing data. But if u're just an average every day user, I don't think the difference in read/write time between an expensive one and a cheaper one would be really noticable to u. As for the noise, also not a huge deal unless u're easily annoyed by the sounds your computer makes. So all u really gotta worry about is reliability.
Generally I go for the 8mb cache versions, Usually (here in Canada) best buy or future shop has some good ones on sale every now and then. I say let your budget and needs dictate what size HD u get and what cache size.
