I know it is a kind of heatsink, but what really is it? Does it work well? Where can i see some specs of one?

Yup, it's a heatsink.
Some say it almost does as well as a FOP38, but without that sickening noise.

Yeah, the TaiSol 742, with a YS Tech 60mm fan added to it rather than the thin one, makes a very nice cooler for the money indeed :)
Does the sucker fit on a p3 1000 EB?

Any socket A fan will fit an FCPGA slot, however - one must ensure that there is sufficient space around the socket to accomodate any fat heatsinks before purchasing them.
