I just dropped $275 for a new BBA Radeon 9800 pro. This was a supposed upgrade from my softmodded 9500 np. Here is a little comparison.

9500

9800 pro

3dmark03 6,750

This kind of performance increase sure doesn't justify the amount of money I spent. Someone please tell me I am silly. Tell me the 9800 pro will own in HL2 and DOOM3. Tell me I am a fool for not upgrading earlier. Tell me my sister is ugly. Tell me anything. Thanks.

It sounds like your CPU is starting to limit the capablities of the video card.

It's a nice upgrade, considering the 9500 is able to be softmoddable it should fetch a pretty penny, bringing the amount out of pocket to about $125

You shouldn't be suffering from Buyers remorse, the 9800 is a nice card and should satisfy your needs for some time. Keep in mind a normal 9500 pro will be eaten alive by a 9800, you just had a really decent one.

I have to agree....

I got about 1000 more points in 3dmark03 from going from 2.9ghz to 3.4ghz with this CPU on my non OCed 9700pro.

I say that once you get a CPU about 500mhz faster then now, you'll see about 1000 more points too.

Seriously, I would agree with Shade00. And the softmodded 9500's can be pretty mean little cards if massaged correctly. But I would still run thru the standard driver checks/system performance checks as that does seem a bit low.

What FSB/ratio you pushing?

I'm sorry...but you should have known better......

You basically just upgraded from an R9700Pro to an R9800Pro...and with the R420 just around the corner!!

Let's hope that others will learn from this mistake, and you will not repeat it!

Actually, no I didn't like getting spanked by your AMD rig, or your 9500 clocked at like 500/500. That thing is insane.

My system is a 2.4c at 3.3
FSB 275
Memory 1 gig HyperX 2-3-2-5

And yes, I am running 5/4 divider with memory at 220 MHz.
