View Full Version : OMFG !!!! C II now at 1045 !!!!
Damn foolish Via chipset, I KNEW it was holding me back!!
Just got an Asus P3C2000 mb, and after a ton of BIOS tweaking to get things goin' here's where i stand.
The Asus doesn't like PC133 ram. Running just my 64MB stick of PC100. This is set in the BIOS @ 87 MHz, as I was having lock up probs.
Set everyting up w/ my P/// 600E at default settings, including formatting and installing the OS (WinME)
Got the P/// to 150 FSB (900MHz) stable, but I'm still running the intel hsf, and it was getting kinda hot.
Swapped in my Celeron 600. I had this running at 112 FSB on the A-Trend (Via Apollo Pro 133 chipset) and it would lock up in Windows IMMEDIATELY at 115 FSB. This was at 2.05v.....
Celeron 600 (Asus mb) now running at 116 FSB (1045 MHz) stable.
Yippi-kai-yea-M*****F*****!!!!
I've got an Alpha PEP66T due in around Tuesday to replace the Gorb (yeah, it's got a GORB on it!).
Might be able to drop that vcore down to 2.0 again w/ that.
YEEEEEHAAAAAA!

Uh, no....don't know latin. Just a whole mess of coffee, and several choice four, five, seven, eleven, and twelve letter words while I stumbled my way thru this BIOS, trying to configure my old ISA SCSI card, so I could have my CDRW.....
It just dawned on my I haven't even tried my other Celeron yet......(the one that maxed out at 945).
Think I'll see if that'll push a bit further, too.
I'll be back.

It would be an interesting test to benchmark the PIII-600 at 150FSB vs. the Celermine at whatever you can get it to. I think I would have to bet on the PIII...

Could i have the same problem on my ASUS P3V4X (VIA APOLLA 133a) ??? My damn Celeron II 700 won't go higher then 877 (83fsb). I would take it to 85, 90, 95fsb's but i have the new revision p3v4x and it doesn't have those settings. I has the voltage to 2.4v and still no post!!! I am telling you damn via chipsets. I am getting a soyo and then i should get it to 1gig or 950 +. Not to mention raid and better memory performance. I have never tested this chip in another mobo yet. WE'LL SEE!!!
Burning in @ 1.65v (1.7 default cC0) 27C --- IDLE 38---39C full load
192mb pc133 MICRON
ATI RADEON 32MB DDR 166/333 @ 190/380
CELERON II 700 @ 877 (83fsb)
Allll riiiiightyy thennnn....
The 600 @ 945 is maxed out there. Not surprised, I bought it "pre-tested" to run at 945.
I was surprised at the scores I got in Sandra Pro 2001.
Tim, guess what. The C II scored higher. Surprise!
Here's the numbers:
C II cC0 600 @ 1045, 2.05v
Dhrystone : 2815
Whetstone : 1404
Interger SSE : 5657
Floating Point SSE : 6930
Performance Rating : 1254
Pentium /// cB0 600E @ 900, 1.9v
Dhrystone : 2430
Whetstone : 1212
Interger SSE : 4884
Floating Point SSE : 5980
Performance Rating : 1080
I'm still having problems with this thing locking up, even at default settings w/ the P ///. (not overclocked)
If I can't get this ironed out by Tuesday, I'm gonna see about picking up a USB keyboard to go w/ the Soyo 6BA+III board I just got (Bad PS/2 ports) and try that out. This Asus is kinda finicky and tempermental. Plus, I get to look at 256MB of PC133 sitting on my desktop, not in my rig......=(

So Carmine,
Sounds like you jumped on that Soyo 6BA+100 you were looking at the other day. Good. From all the posts I've read of yours, you've been having all kinds of grief with that board you have now. That Cellie should be able to go a bit further that what you are running now. That Soyo should do the trick for you.
Good luck w/ that.
This Asus mb is nice, but it's awful particular about what you can abd cannot use w/ it. Certain bus speed render my ISA SCSI card inop. Does weird stuff with the ram, too. 112 FSB is ok, 114, no SCSI, 116 is ok..... Hmmmm....
I done shoulda got a BE6 II like I REALLY wanted, but this mb was available, for a decent $.
I'll keep tinkerin', and hopefully this will all settle into place. Just can't figure the random lockups in IE. Doesn't matter if I'm o/ced, or running at default.
