View Full Version : My P3-800 Slot1 won't post @992 after Peltier Installed..Anyone know why?
My Board Species is Follow:
P3 800 Slot 1 (SL4KF) cC0 (just bought less than a month)
Abit BH6 SS Bios
256 Generic RAM (3 Pieces, mix of CAS2 and CA3, but one of them is Infernon)
Alpha P3125S Heatsink with YS tech Dual Fan
Voodoo 5 5500 APG o/c to 183
Enermax 330W PS
Sblive Value OEM
I can o/c to 992 (124x8) with 1.85V without any problems and it's rock stable on playing on Q3 for 3 Hours without any problem. However when I installed Tom L Peltier Kit (52W) (everything origial from the KIT). Now I can only o/c to 896 (112x8) and I can't o/c back to 124 ANYMORE!
Another question is the motherboard temeperature is higher than I installed the Peltier on. (24C vs 30C). I just checked the Peltier Kit and everything is running smoothly. Can anyone tell me what's going wrong with my P3-800 or anything suggestion that I can o/c back to 992?? Tom L. supposed help to o/c the chips but now I have to u/c (Underclocked) the chips and that's F*CKING WERID!!
Thanks for anyone who can suggest an idea.
Your motherboard temps will rise while using a peltier. Reason being. Peltiers pump out alot of heat. This will raise the temp inside your case as oppossed to not using a pelt. The heatsink's are dissapating alot more heat so the air coming off of the heatsink is warmer. which raises your motherboard temps.
I have a PIII 800E as well. I can not get mine any higher then 960. Mine is a cbo stepping though. I used to have the same peltier you got on mine but I wasnt getting the results I wanted so I took it off. That is weird that you cant even post now. I know I used to have a problem when I would change the fsb and exit the bios it wouldnt post. the monitor would go in stand by and the pc would just sit there. Then I would just shut it off and turn it back on and it would boot up fine! Weird heh.
Are you running your pelt. on a seperate power supply?
I noticed you have a V5 5500. Did you have to disable the windows splash screen to boot into windows with a higher fsb? Cause I do. Anything higher then 110mhz fsb It will not boot if the windows splash screen comes up. Once I disabled it, It always boots up fine. I never had that problem with my V3 3500. Oh well I found a way around it.

If you're running the peltier off the 330W Enermax PS, I think that's your problem...the peltier and components combined are consuming more than your PS can supply. I would try either connecting the peltier to it's own PS, or replacing the 330W with a 400W or higher...just my .02 worth.

A fifty wat peltier should run fine on a 300 watt powersupply. If your not getting sub zero temps at idle the peltier is installed incorrectly.

Reply to bdf24: I took it off my Peltier and now I am able to post @ 992 with 1.85V ..Rock Stable with Win2k. I really want to use my Peltier coz I pay 70 dollars (Canadian) for it.
I think 330W powersupply is good enough to run a peltier but I totally don't know how to get rid of the heat in my case. (I open my case door). I am really frustrated since I found this peltier is extremely good on lower the temperature of my CPU...I know Peltier draws out lot of heat and it heats up my BX chipset. Now My Peltier just sit on my desk and waiting for me to install it back on again if anyone have any idea to boost it up

Your at the same place the rest of us are. Heat is our problem. Time to look for hotspots. In overclocking there are going to be many. If your not interested in a refrigerated case $ your going to have to leave your case open.
Hope your using artic silver thermal paste cause it works. Think about pulling off your chipset heatsink and apply articsilver/or replacing it with a fan unit. Bond a radioshack heatsink on to your clock generator as well as any chips u find hot. Pick up a cheap $2.00 2 fan hard drive fan set, hard drives need cooling too.
Hope ya c the point. If your not going to use a refrigerated case then u use fans an heatsinks. Just remember if you use air cooling your cooling efforts are always going to be limited by ambient tempeture.
Good luck

As far as the heat goes. you could turn you cpu fan around to suck air off of the heatsink. That was how I ran mine. I actually got a few degrees drop in my temps doing that. While you do that you could make some sort of venting to go directly from your heatsink to the back of the case and out. This should eliminate most of the heat build up caused by the pelt.
As far as not being able to boot up any higher then 896. I'm still trying to figure that one out. Do you have your cpu L2 ECC disabled or enabled in the bios? I know for me when I stuck my pelt. on for some reason I couldnt post or would get lockups with this disabled. Once I enabled it it ran fine.
Also maybe try upping your I/O voltage a bit. Maybe between the peltier and your cpu sucking all that power at bootup due to being overclocked, It wont go. I do believe that your psu can handle that peltier. I ran mine for a little while on a 250w psu with a **** load of other stuff hooked up. So I dont think thats the problem.
Another thing, You will not get Subzero temps at boot up with a 50 watt peltier. It just does not have that much power! you would have to have water cooling in conjunction with it to get that, And even then I think you would need a bigger peltier for temps that low. A 50 watt peltier is good for people who do not want to take serious and extreme precautions for condensation. But you still need to be carefull if your not overclocking cause it will bring it down alot lower then room temp, and thats when condensation will form. But if your running with a higher core voltage like 1.8 you should not have to worry about it.
Hope this helps, Let us know what happens.
