First off, I wanted to thank the board and everyone here, for all the great info in it.

Now on to my little story. It was a warm fall day, and I wanted to upgrade my computer that day, I was sick of waiting. So I went to the computer store, and bought an ASUS A7N8B Deluxe with dolby digital built it.

I also got a Barton 2500+, and realized I needed some RAM, my old sd pc-133 wasnt going to cut it anymore. So I bought 2 sticks from the PC store, PC-2700 256. (spectrum or spectra, Im not turning off my pc unplugging it again, just for the correct name, Ive been doing that for the last 4 hrs)

Anyways, I recently got into OC'ing this thing.
The CPU is great, and so is the mobo, but the ram, ooo nnooo. Stay away from any RAM named spectra, spectrum.

I will list what I have been doing all day in test form later on tonight, but here is what I gathered.

My CPU and mobo are running at 200 fsb with a mulitplier of 11 for now, running prime for about 6 hrs, should be fine. But the RAM does not like anything over 133, which is pc2100 if I am correct. Now the ram is rated at 166 mhz(pc2700) but, you get errors, sometimes the computer wont boot because of ram errors if it goes higher.

I tried changing the Voltage to them, nothing, I would get errors after a short while.

I still plan on taking them out of dual channel mode, and try running them at single channel at 166 mhz, to see if it passes then, but if not, these ram chips suck. Even with the lifetime warranty, I will see them to someone for cheap.

Ok, done ranting for now, more on it later.

Are you sure you cant take those defective RAM chips back to the computer store and exchange them for some good stuff?

That's pretty sad that their "PC2700" RAM won't even run at its advertised speed.

I have some no-name brand 2700 ram too...it sucks as well, but it works.. doens't give me any errors. My mobo gave me problems when changing FSB, so I'm stuck changing my multiplier. I have mine at 12x166

anything over 150, they become unstable in programs, crash, and mem errors(of course), Im def gonna need to get something back for them.
