View Full Version : I hope I didn't hit my AQXEA 2500+'s "wall" already!

Alright. Well I found out my memory can't handle 200fsb, BUT it can do 190 at 2.5-3-3-11 no prob (8 hours of memtest86). So I don't think that's too bad.
So I set up my cpu at 190x11. Works. so I up it to 195x11.5=20 min prime stable, then my pateints made me stop it and up it up again :)
But 190x12=2280Mhz will give me a error within 10 mins. I have the vcore at 1.825v in bios (1.77 in cpuz).
I have a antec 480psu, so that shouldn't be my problem. I'm just VERY suprised that I can't seem to be able to hit 2.3Ghz. Isn't 1.825vcore pretty high already? My load temp with it like this is 42C, with idle at 35C (25c case temp).
So does anyone have any idea's for me? I have my mem timing's at 3-3-3-11, even though they passed at 2.5-3-3-11, just to make sure it's my chip. I'd like to keep the fsb as high as possible, so that my memory can have a higher bandwidth.
I've heard 1.9 vcore is pretty much the air limit for a chip. My chip is a AQXEA, so I had high hopes for it :(
I'll post some MBM5 readouts soon. If you need to know any more info, just ask. But it all should be in my sig. HELP!!!!!
Well, I hate to be the one to give you the bad news, but tough luck. You picked your hardware out perfectly, followed the overclocking process perfectly, but, no dice. It's what overclocking always boils down to in the end; luck. Your cooling, power supply, and motherboard are all top notch, but it looks like you got a dud of a processor. :( You probably can't expect any higher than what you've gotten so far, but the good part is, nothing can really get any faster anyways. Past about 2.2GHz, it all feels the same. I'd suggest giving your memory a lot more juice and tightening its timings. That's where real-world performance gains are a lot more pronounced than a 100 MHz or so on the processor.

I've also got an aqxea, week 23, tops out at 10.5*215 @ 1.85v. It's 4 hour Prime95 torture test stable, haven't tried longer. I've got bh-5 ram, so I can run 2-3-3-11 timings.
I've pretty much reached my limit, except for possibly tightening my ram timings (can't quite hit 220). Look on the bright side, you won't have to uprade your cpu for at least 6 months, probably not till 2005.

It may not be your chip. Crucial ram are not good overclockers. Try low FSB and high multiplier. If you can do something like 166x12.5 @ 1.7V, I doubt it is your cpu limiting you. Then try low multiplier and high FSB. Whatever FSB limit you hit will probably be your ram limit.

Good call, Silent Buddha, beat me to saying the same thing.
I cant get my aqzfa 0347 to 207mhz stable. I was bummed when I found my memory could only do 207 but I guess it doesn't matter that much if I can't even get the chip to do 207. Its just the luck of the draw and we are the unlucky ones:(

Yeah, I was bummed out too when I found out my Geil Golden Dragon PC3500 Dual Channnel 256mbx2 was crap and wasn't stable at CAS2 beyond 182mHz. lol, anybody want to buy it?

RMA it. That is a manufacture defect, its not running at the spec speeds.

Aww i didn't want to hear that. I wanted to hear, "oh yea, did you remember to turn off this 1 button" and bam, 2.4! lol
That's kinda what I'm hopeing for. I REALLY hope it's my RAM that is limiting me, and not my CPU. I will turn the ratio down, and run the CPU at 200x11, while the RAM will only be at 166. I'll then let prime95 go all night and pray no errors in morning! :) I'll be buying new ram kidna soon, but video card comes first! :)
I can run 180fsb, 2-2-2-11 (or at least 10 hours memtest stable). So if worse comes to worse, I guess I'll just do that. Sandra tells me higher fsb on memory is WAY more important then timings, but of course I'd rather have real-world preformance then synthetic :)
So I'll just have to mess around with it some more. Thanks for the replys.

That's the MBM5 readout, if that helps. Seems low to me, at least for a True 480!

EDIT: I checked with a multi, and it read 5.10 and 12.07v (under load) So it seems either MBM is VERY off, or else maybe something is wrong with my motherboard....

Well now I know it's not the RAM :(
166x14=2338 (1.825 vcore)
2.5-3-3-11
After 2 mins=fail :(
Well that just sucks :( No 2.3 Ghz for me.

Just means you have to go water or peltier man, keep at it. Im having trouble staying over 2.01 ghz stably.
Just gotta keep wating for that peltier set up.

How do you know it's not the ram, that's some pretty crappy timings for PC2700. What is it rated to run at?

I know it sucks... :(
I can't remember what it's rated at, but it passes prime/memtest86 at 180, 2.5-2-2-11. I just loosend the timings just to make sure it's not the RAM. My cpu just doesn't like 2.3Ghz. I guess I can give it 1.85 (vcore), and see what happends. The highest I've gave it so far is 1.825 (in bios, 1.73 low in MBM5)
I'll just have to mess with it more, but so far it doesn't look to good! :(
my stuffs in my bios and I can't get over 2.2ghz myself no matter what I try prime halts after 10 minutes no matter what settings I try I think we just got hosed...I typically 10x220 @ 1.825 vcore which isn't prime stable but thats the only thing that produces errors my memory memtests indefinately so I dunno what the deal is my temps are fine 40c at load...at 10x215 I am prime stable for a hour then it halts with a rounding error....I dunno I've tried a hundred different things I have hit 2.4ghz with 2.03v vcore just to see if it would do it and it does but I am told with air cooling no matter what your temps not to go over 1.9v

Whoa! I started messing with it some more, and this time I got it right :)
184x12.5=2300Mhz!!!! With a 1.9vcore (1.84 in CPU-Z), it is 9 hour prime stable! Memory at 2.5-2-2-11. Temps aren't too bad, 45C load, 38 idle.
This makes me happier. I'm gonna slowly lower the vcore, then up the fsb a bit to see how much farther I can push it.
Maybe the chip needed some time to break in. I dunno, but I'll take it!

Hehe, look at my sig. Cpu 2280mhz = 182x12.5 @ 1.7V and memory @ 2-3-3-11. My memory hits a wall at 182mHz and needs CAS2.5 to go further. My chips is an AQXEA 0330 and oc's very well. Good luck in pushing yours further! :)

My chip seems to need a lotta juice to run at others speeds, which kinda sucks.
But it just passed prime for 3 hours at 1.875v. So I'll keep putting it down bt .025 and see how low I can go.
My ram is only SUPPOSE to do 2cas at 133, but will go up to around 170. I can run my ram at 2.5-2-2-11 @190 on memtest, but I always fail prime. Usually with my processor around 2200Mhz, so I'm not exactly sure which one it is. I'll have to mess around with it more. New RAM will come soon, but first new videocard :)
But for now, I'm definatly happy with were I am. I'm gonna try to up the multiplyer to 13, once I see how low I can drop the vcore.
Also, Load temp dropped to 43C.
Thanks for the help/encouragment everyone!

1.85vcore, 5 hour Prime stable!! Woohoo! It will hopefully let me down to 1.75 or so, but we'll see.
I tried 184x13, w/ 1.9vcore and that was a no go.
But I'm not to unhappy with 184x12.5=2300Mhz. I was hopeing for more, but still not bad for 90 bucks.

yeah I'm feelin your pain with this HyperX 3500 I can't get it prime stable anything over 200mhz with cas under 2 or at least thats what I'm thinking my problem is...cuz I can run small ffts all day long but as soon as I blend it I get a error in 5-10 minutes...I can run memtest 12 hours at 220fsb 2.2.2.7 timings but prime won't run longer than 1 minute at those settings

first i have read numerous post here that says AQXEA is the super stepping for the 2500+ barton and i had mine stable at 226fsb passed 24 hour p95,
there isn't anything wrong with crucial memory mine hit 226 fsb
@2.9v 7-2-2-2.5 for some reason it liked those better than 11-3-3-2.5
crucial is cas 3 and thats why people put it down, but it will run cas2 and 2.5 with the best of them, and stable up to 230fsb
it's all in this 3200 ddr dual channel shootout see how they match up

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought 12.5x was the highest multi it will go. Setting 13x will make your multi very low.
And AQZEA is the best stepping before the Bartons got locked :)

Is this true? I hope it isn't!
Hi. Will someone please help me. I have a problem with my 2500.
first of all, here are my specs:
Abit nf7-s v.1.1
2500 AQZFA0347
1GB DDR400 CAS2 CH-5 Winbond chips 6-3-2-2 @2.7v
WD80GB SE 8mb cache
9800pro
slk-900a w/tt smart fan 2
vantec fan control.
Austin 450w psu (stock with my chieftec case)
I can't seem to run my cpu with a 400 mhz (eff.) fsb. I'm not sure if it is my ram, chip, psu, or board. Prior to this cpu i had an 1800t-bred b and ran it at a 400mhz fsb, and it was stable. my psu shows really straight lines on mbm. i also reset my vid card back to stock speeds. i'm pretty sure it is my chip. i have heard that others have had to crank up the volts on it. I have it at 1.825v with 200mhz fsb (2.2ghz), it will run basic programs, but will not run all the way through 3dmark and will not load the specialists very well. Also, i might be limited by my board as it doesn't officially support a 400mhz fsb. if i had to raise the voltage on my chip what is the highest i can safely go? Thanks a lot

Some of these new bartons are CRAP
to get 2.2ghz on my week 8 2500 I have to have 1.825 try upping it to 1.85 then you'll stabilize I bet...I am told on air cooling not to go over 1.9v but I've had mine @ 2.03 for a short time so I could run some benches at 2.3ghz
hey yo, try lowering your multi brother... i has similar probs u before but u gotta play around with it more.. u gotta tickle it a lil bit...
try 11.5 x 210 with 1.95vcore....
or 10.5 x 230 with 2.0vcore...
thats my current setup right now with aqxea 0331 and those are the best chip of bartons if u ask me...

I used Mwarhead's reset tool and then installed his remix drivers (2.45a, i believe it was) and reinstalled ATI's CAT 3.10 drivers.
200 point increase in 3dmark2001, system runs MUCH more smoothly. ALL my scores in sandra went up 200 to 400 points each (both CPU and mem).
I also upped the fsb to 185x12.5, and it passed 30 mins of prime when before it'd crash within 5.
So I'll keep upping it and see how far I can go! So far I'm at 185x12.5=2312 1.85v
2.5-2-2-11 2.7v
