Alright, well I'm having some major problems. I've just build a new system for the family, and I can't get windows XP to install. Here is the list of hardware:

Abit KX7-333 w/latest BIOS
AMD Duron 1.6Ghz
256 Mb Corsair PC2100 ValueRam
Lite-On CD-RW drive
Samsung 40GB Harddrive
Nvidia Riva TNT2 VideoCard

Anyways, whenever I try installing windows, during the preparation process, I get erros saying that files are corrupted and that it may be a bad CD. The thing is though, I've tried two different CD's and it still happens.I'm thinking that maybe it might be the harddrive because it's really old, like as in 5 years old. But I'm not sure. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Bad CD-ROM drive, or, in my experience, messed up IDE cables.

Try installing other OS like win98, windows 2000.... I encountered this error before and it was because of a BAD CD's or DRIVE ... and the other one was the MOBO got problem.

I checked my RAM timings in the BIOS and found my pc2100 ram was SPD'ing to 166 instead od 133. I corrected this and I stopped getting the errors while installing, but then it froze up in the final installation section when it got to "registering components".

I don't think it is bad ram, because I was using this ram in a different machine before and had no problems. I will run memtest on it however.

Well, I ran memtest on the stick of ram, and it came up with tons of errors. Then I threw in a different stick of ram that I know works, and it came up with errors too. This makes me think it's the mobo... Does that make sense?
