Im looking to buy 5.1 speakers but i dont know which ones i should go for that are priced good. Right now i have an old receiver and speakers hooked up to that but i want to be able to use the inputs i have on my nf7-s........any ideas?
Well, if price is your main concern check out the z680's from logitech, they are a good 5.1 set. If you are on a budget look for the z640's wich are cheap and still 5.1. In the middle is the Z5300 from logitech and in the highend lies the Klipsch promedia 5.1 ultra. All but the z640's should handle your needs adequately.
The best? Klipsch 5.1 promedia Ultras. If you have the money to burn. :-) ..might as well throw on an add on SWS sub for 100$ too

does the z640 or the z5300 have the wires that will hook up directly to the 6 channel card i have on my computer? im not too familiar with this....
I've got the Z640's and im quite satisfied with them for $66 shipped
Yes any of the above sets will hook up into the computer via 3 stereo mini plugs, and for 100 dollars it looks like your only option is the z640's.

Logitech z640 is good set of speakers.
Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 is really good if you have the money.

I have heard both the Klipsch ProMedia and the Logitech Z680 systems and to be honest I really dont think the the Klipsch are any better... The Klipsch have one benefit over the Z680's that I have really noticed and that is the crystal clear ultra high notes.. But for price and quality and power go with the Z680's amazing speakers (I own them).... Hard to beat the power of these babies at 505 Watts and a nice 8" sub...
I dont know if I would try to go to cheap for 5.1 you may really lack quality..
I have the z640's and they sound very good. I first had them on a SB Live 5.1 card and the sound was good. When I upgraded to an Audigy 2, there was a pretty big difference and they sounded much better.
The Soundstorm on your NF7-S won't sound much better with higher end speakers. Laws of diminishing returns.

Man if you can throw in another 50 bucks, go for the z5300's. As Maximum PC states, these are the best 200 dollar 5.1s we've ever heard. They are actually under 150 bucks at amazon.com. Quite the deal for these babies.

i know that the nf7-s doesnt have the best sound as some of those other cards out there but being onboard sound it is good right? what do you people think compares to it?
if you put in the extra $$, i would also recommend getting the z-5300. I've heard both these and the z-640's in the past 2 weeks, and they are worth the extra $$, and they are also thx certified. The z-640's weren't as bad as i had almost expected being at the bottom of the 5.1 food chain, if you don't have the money, they're not that bad at all.
gusdagoos - I've heard that the Soundstorm compared to the Audigy 1. It's definitely the best on-board sound.
djcomp - I was looking at the specs of the z-5300 and they're not that much better. SNR is 85db compared to z640's 75db. If I really wanted to listen to music or movies that loud, I'd use my home theater system for that. I'm sure they're nice but for a $100 budget, the z640's are pretty damn good.

yea i head the z640's and they didnt seem that bad at all......cant think of any other 5.1 speakers for under 100 dolllars.....
Thought you were asking for the "Best 5.1 speakers". It should narrow down to between Klipsch Promedia 5.1 and Z680.
