Bought my Cel II 600 cC0 before verifying my board could run it. Old OEM P2b-98XV. Could get new EEPROM chip. Don't want to. Since I'm basically gonna build a system from scratch, I'm thinking about jumping ship to AMD. Gonna soon have about 1 grand to invest in a system. I believe I can build my Cel II for around $750.00. But from reading reviews and forum posts I think the smart money on a new system is with AMD. I guess I'm looking for a reason not to change . If I do, I'll be puting my Cel II, abit slotket!!!, and HSF in the classifieds.
I won't need a monitor.
Any reason to stick with INTEL ??

I'm right there with ya man.

I'm so tempted to build me a AMD 1200mhz TB system. With everything I have now all I need is the board, cpu, and a bigger psu. all in all around $450.00 to build it!

It is so tempting. Although I think the wife would kick my ass! hehehehe!

The only AMD platform I would even look at, would be a duron...not a tbird...the thruput scores are horrible..especialy mem..but the duron seems to keep in step with a PIII 1g on a 820 chipset...at least according to my version of sandra, if I were you, I would wait for the next generation, from both AMD, and Intel..and see what happens. Now is not a good time to buy...unless you want a PIII, the prices will continue to drop especialy now that the P4 has had it's comming out party.
Wouldn't it be easier to just swap out that mobo for something that would support yer cellie for now?
It would certainly be cheaper.
If you decide to go with AMD, then go with the KT 133 chipset, so far it seems to be the fastest

Thats what I would get. The Abit KT7A. From what I have read and heard it is a pretty sweet board. I'll find out cause my dad just ordered that board with a TB 1200. So I will see how fast she is. It will be my first time even using an AMD based system.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I am gonna wait until after March 5TH AMD price roll back, regardless of whether I defect. I was plannin' on the IWILL KK266 at first, but I've seen a lot of forum members rise to the defense of the Abit KT7. I trust you guys a lot more than reviewers who may be "in the bag" or just parrot each others reviews. Abit seems to be the preferred mobo manufacturer of this site. Since this site is where I'll come crying when I need OC advice maybe I should go with the predominant and highly tweakable Abit. I also read that the Abit is easier to OC.
Gaming on my machine is first, last everything!
On the Intel side I was leaning towards the CUSL2-C for my Cel 600. The BE6-II keeps reasserting itself in my thoughts though. It is very well established and I keep hearing 'bout problems with the CUSL2 . With INTEL my PC 133 SDRAM will continue to rock, whereas with AMD I would be sorely tempted to spring for DDR & 150Mhz..
Damn I'm long-winded. Hell, I gotta sell my truck before I can buy squat!!
Thanks again!

Dont get the KT7. Get the newer KT7A. It's supposed to be quit a bit faster.

Amen Brother! After reading ocworkbench.com's "KT133A Shootout" there is no doubt that the Abit KT7A is the AMD solution.
Here is the article http://203.126.203.151/articles/kt133a/kt133ap1.htm

IMO I still don't trust AMD yet. They have not proven themselvse to me as for quality and reliability. I would sooner go with alpha or sun. but intel is screwing around with crack and that stuff can really mess you up. OHH did i say crack? I meant rambus. sorry. crack would be better. anyway and amd is getting up there.
